Here are the choices: Stock block honed, 6.0L Iron block, or C5-R Block? All three block will use a 4" forged crank and billet main caps. The FI will be a F1R with water-to-air IC. The purpose is mostly street, some drag strip, some road course. I figure +800whp on pump gas and +1000whp on the strip. Which block would you use and why.

 

800 on pump gas? you're going to need a shitload of cubes, so I vote c5-r.

 

I'd either use the C5-R or the new and much cheaper LS2 aluminum block. Bob

What’s the difference between LS1 / LS6 blocks and the new LS2 aluminum block?

• LS2 blocks feature a 4.00" bore, LS1 / LS6 have 3.888"
• Crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons and cylinder heads are interchangeable between LS2 and LS1 / LS6 engines
• LS2 cylinder heads are made from the same castings as the LS6
• LS2 blocks have the knock sensor on the side of the block compared to LS1 or LS6 block that have it in the lifter valley.
• The cam sensor has been moved to the timing cover (requires use of LS2 cam gear)
• LS2 knock sensors send a different signal type and are not interchangeable with LS1 / LS6
• LS1 computer will control LS2 engine, except for the knock sensors.

My vote is stock block stroked to 382 with AFR 225 heads and lots of boost, alky injection and nitrous!! That's what I am doing now!

whats the price on the c5 r blocks lasttime i looked before i got mti 6.0 block they where like 4500 bucks for just the block?? you could have a nice fully built 408 shortblock for that price!

Why in the hellwould you want a C5R blockwhen people are uning 6's on Iron blocks.
I hope you really have alotof $$ toplay with because it takes alot to get 800hp for the street...... and then after that i hope you dont expect it to live for a real long time......... i mean a long time like a stock motor.....
The priceofthe C5R block alone can have you one badass Iron block that WILL take all the abuse you can throw at it.....

I would take the advise of other people that have actually made that kind of power...there is a lot of good information on these boards, but there is also a lot of 1000rwhp pipe dreamers.

Talk to a few shops that have hit the number and see what they say...

 

yeah, I mean I am going to be happy getting 700rwhp out of a iron block forged internal 408. forced with a D1SC on pump gas. still I vote for the iron block. I may be bias b/c I got one going in. but it is more practical unless you have a blank check to get what ever you want with.
