Default Flushing a FMIC

Any easy way (or way at all) to flush a front-mount? Reason I am asking is turbo seals said bye-bye and now I have 2 or 3 quarts or so of oil sitting in the fmic along with puddles in the intake piping. It's an STS kit and this is the second time the seals have let go. Should I contact STS or just send the turbo out to be rebuilt again? I'd really hate to pull the front end back off, but it looks like I may have to. Thanks.

Well first, that is abnormal. I have gotten a few turbos rebuilt now for some of the STS guys. I thought the first few were just having some bad luck, but their have been many more. It is suprising they don't post it, cause some of them are ones on this board. No way should this be a 2nd rebuild on a turbo. First are you running a restrictor??? Also I assume you are running the pump from STS, if not are what pump are you running?? As for cleaning.....use carb cleaner after you drain the bulk of it out.

That may be the reason! My friend/mechanic told me there wasn't a restrictor in the line, and every turbo kit he has ever seen had one. So, I think the seals said "no" to a constant 60psi of oil pressure. Do you happen to know where I could get a restrictor, what size, etc.? Also, yes I am running the STS pump. Thanks. I may post pics of my MAF tomorrow

Sure does. There was probably a total of a quart or so throughout the intake side, and 2-3 quarts in the intercooler. The MAF actually had to be placed in the oil drain bucket to "drain". It was N-A-S-T-Y!!!
So, anyone know what restrictor I need? Apparently the shop that installed the kit doesn't know either One more thing. Anyone using the EBoost 2? I was thinking about buying one, but will be paying WAY less than $469

You need to run a restrictor on some of the units. A .035 is the typical restrictor. That will keep from flooding out the bearing.

Ya if they sell a complete kit and dont put a 1$ part in there that saves teh turbo they deserve to pay for the rebuilds. Im sure they will have some excuse though. GL

The kit was used, and either the guy I bought it from didnt give it to me ( i seriously doubt that he forgot) or the shop that put the kit in didn't install it. Most of their "mechanics" are either part-time or very low wage. I have since taken my business elsewhere. As far as the restrictor, I am not trying to blame STS, I just want to hear from them if/what size restrictor is needed.

I put a restrictor in my mp gt45- I ended up taking the 4 an line - drill/tap for a 1/4 brasss bolt- then redrilled for a .125 hole- the 4an is a .188 hole. anyways the oil blowout has seemed to go away-

wi tried to put a restirctor in my TTi kit a ways back to stop my oil smoking from the improper drain, it fried the bearings in my turbo, i spent alot of time talking to turbonetics (where my turbo was from) and they said that they can handle the oil pressures that my car was putting out.
before putting a restrictor in id recomend calling the turbo manufacturer and see what they say. my guess is something is wrong with the drain set up.

TTT....the "tech at STS wasnt' very helpful. He could tell me whether there is supposed to be a restrictor in the oil line, or whether the turbo (upgraded GT-67) was a ball-bearing turbo. Can someone please help. I need to find the reason why oil has obliviated the turbo seals twice now! Thanks

The kit doesnt come with any sort of restrictor.

I suspect your scavage pump wasnt kicking on to high when you went into boost and as such couldn't get the oil out fast enough.

Test it when you get a chance. Jumper the connections on the hobbes switch and it should kick into high gear.
