'99 Hugger Orange Z28 - 540rwhp with ATI D1SC ProCharger At 15psi on 126k stock engine, finally cracked #7 piston...

I am doing a very similar set up. I'm only going to be running 7-9 psi on the LS1 buy I'm basically scared shizless because my guy said over 500hp piston #7 cracks. Now it has happened to him and its happened to you. I'm capping myself at 450 for this fall to get used to it (its my first non stock major power vehicle) and next spring I'm sure I'll be tempted to replace the belt to go to 500. He says 500 is the max power where you don't want to go over it. I'm just concerned with my luck that it will crack at 500. Whaddya think?

I love my car. If I blow it up I will go into deep fits of depression.

im in agreement

best way to fix a cracked, is forge ahead with a new one, a stronger one, a more shiny one.

On my Mustang Chassis Dyno, 8 psi of boost from an ATI ProCharger along with headers and a cat back will normally yield 440 to 450 rwhp. Bump this up by adding a blower cam and you'll be at the 500 rwhp bubble. By tuning the car really rich (11.0-11.3) at this level, and with pulling some timing out of it, you should not have any problems. Keep in mind though that you possibly still could crack the #7 pistons ringlands...
500 rwhp on a Mustang Chassis Dyno would be approx 540-550 rwhp on a DynoJet. Bob

Well, I was peeved. I was told 450 hp to the wheels yada yada, and when it was done it ran 383. They did come in $1200 under budget and So I'm sinking 500 into some exhaust crap, to match the headers and they crying saying they wanted me to get used to the power, but by Friday I'll have the new exhaust, pulleys and retuned, so we better hit 450. I will probably cap it there b/c I'm not interested in tempting fate.

but....

from stock 300ish... to 383 dyno was a scary fast difference. The first chick (my hot cleaning babe) I got in my car, after I punched it on the freeway, got wet in the panties. So, it was worth the dough!

just get used to driving your car now save your engine and when you have the money forge the bottom end and go for over 500, why not? do you still have the stock rear end, and are you a 6spd or auto.

Something is wrong here for you to only get 383rwhp! What boost level are you seeing? Is the belt tight? What is the timing set at during wide open throttle? What is the air/fuel ratio at during wide open throttle? Are they detecting spark knock? Bob

I can add one! Is the throttle body opening all the way? Mine was getting stuck on the pcv hose.
