Re: Turbo on 422
The big question is which turbo kit? The main reason for going cubes is for the torque advantage which is quite necessary in both NA and centrifigal applications. Depending on system design with turbos you don't necessarily need the extra cubic inches. What we recommend is finding out which block you want to go with, stock, 6.0 iron, C5R, and then looking at the geometry of components used in respect to durability. Street cars will have different setups than a short use race motor. As in the mustang crowd, the most popular upgrade from the 302 is the 347. This provides a much needed torque increase but not a durable engine when compared to say a 331. In the LS1 crowd it is very difficult to put your finger on the "best" setup 'cause alot of people seem to keep changing combos and never really gets the most out of one. LPE has a TT vette here in Orlando that has made over 700rwhp at 12-13psi with a standard aluminum block, 372 cubes, stock ls1 intake, stock fuel lines and rails, and I am pretty sure stock head bolts. It may be in for a LS6 intake, GTBB37, C5R, LS6 head upgrade shortly. Hmm, how do I get my hands on his current shortblock setup? His car sounds completely stock at idle minus the triflow catback. No noticeable cam. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">
