Personally, I don't think 550rwhp is possible on a stock motor with only 8psi. I would think 550 would be easy on a heads cam motor with 8psi.
If your looking at this type of power level and want it to be reliable I would look into a stronger bottom end with a lower compression ratio. Then a nice set of heads and cam so you can run as little boost as necessary to get to your power goal. That should make the car live on 93 pump gas rather nicely.
For 550rwhp your gonna want to go to at least 42# injectors maybe even straight to 50#ers(for the future ). I believe 50# injectors are the biggest you can get that the stock computer will control.
Fuel pump - Are you going to run a sump type setup. If so go straight for one of the big Aeromotives. I just put one on my car but, use my stock intank pump to supply fuel to the Aeromotive inline. I use a relay and a hobbes switch to activate the Aeromotive only when I get into boost and it works well. I think there are some single intank pumps also that could supply the fuel by themselves.(Walbro 340?) I don't know too much about them.
The fuel rails are another thing that should be addressed. There plenty big to support the power but, they have a pulse dampner that restricts flow to the passenger cylinder bank at higher power levels. Several companies make modified stock rails and if your running custom fuel lines they would be something to look into. The '97 vette rails are an option also as they don't have the dampner, have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the rail, and have a return line on the rail.
The computer will have to be programmed for the the big injectors and you might want to drop the stock timing a little(for reliability on pump gas). LS1 edit is out so you could make changes yourself or they're plenty of tuners that will take your $450-500 to program it.
For 7psi some of the above may be overkill but, if your doing it you may as well go overboard so when you upgrade in the future you won't have to redo stuff. I know all about redoing stuff.
What type of car are you putting it in? I like old cars with late model drivelines.

Thanks for the reply! That was excellent! I am putting it in an early impala and kind of doing a retro type theme with big brakes good power and modern luxurey appointments. I was curious about the LS1 edit.... because I am not sure if any of the aftermarket harnesses come with serial ports to adapt a tuner to. By bypassing the pulser or regualtor in the fuel rail do you need to remap anything or is that one of those fancy Govornment items that are better left off without any illeffects. I do agree with you on lowering the boost and spending more on the "hardparts" to gain in reliable power. I am new to the LS-1 scene and am not familiar with what they can take without scattering. As far as the pump being submerged or inline at this point it doesnt matter. I can go with whatever is going to work best or what you guys recommend. I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can do this 1 time if you know what I mean.
Tony....
I not sure of the exact purpose of the pulse dampner but you won't have to do any fuel remapping by bypassing it. I think it is there to dampen the fuel pulses in the rail when the injectors fire. It only is a problem for higher horsepower cars because it becomes a restriction for fuel trying to get to the passenger side cylinders.
Its only held on by a c-clip and can be taken off and gutted out to help equalize flow between the two cylinder banks. I've never gutted one but there are some guys on here that have.(maybe they'll chime in)
Here are some threads with a little info about custom rails.

There are some people that seem to be running 10psi+ with no problem BUT, they are using water/alky injection, and high octane/conservative tuning to run it safely. Above 10psi is where problems start to surface. The heads tend to deform between the head bolts when subjected to high cylinder pressures. It seems the LS1 was not designed with FI in mind. I think 7psi can be reliable on a stock bottom end with good tuning and pump gas. Of course everybodys definition of reliable is different.
Try getting in touch with Agostino Racing Engines. They make custom fuel rails and have a intank pump setup specifically for big power cars.(I would go this route if possible because the Aeromotive inline is too LOUD to run all the time) They know alot about what these motors can and can't take with a power adder also. Here is a link to there website/number.
