car sat for 3months = 4 qts low
Ok i was driving it around and tonight i notice when i hit it the oil press went down. I heard of this happening with someone else and thought oil must be low. Well I put in 4 qts and its now in the ok. What would be causing it to leak this much oil? I have to check the spot where i park it for oil spots. Are my turbos leaking now?

Yours drained out 4 quarts in 3 months. Mine did about 1/2 in one month.
I think that I may have solved this issue. I took my pump apart again last week. Everything looked fine, no damage. I thought that the leak could be as a result of a mis-match over time of the plastic cap to the plastic piece in the body. Theres no rubber grommet or O-ring in this area, and I think that over the course of a year, the vibration just caused the leak. Its fairly hard plastic - polycarbonate, or a high glass nylon, or something like that.
Anyway, I cleaned the OD flange of the top piece and the ID flange of the pump piece with brake cleaner. I then put a 1/8 bead of RTV inside the ID of the pump part. I put the cap back on, tightened the screws, and waited 2 days for drying.
1 week later, I have yet to smell oil from inside, and there is just a few drops from the pump, and this could even be from a fitting leak. I did not jack the car up.
I hope thats all it is. It seems likely. I doubt that this thing was ever designed for long term durability.

Does anyone have flow numbers for this thing?
I'd STILL prefer to goto a mechanical pump...I'm ready to ask on the C5 forum for someone with a LPE TT car to take pics.

Well add me to the list...
I get in the car to go home and the low oil light is on. I religously watch the oil pressure under boost and its never dropped.
I pull out and its 60psi at idle, then it warms down to 55, then it starts to drop, its a 7 mile trip home and each mile or two it drops one or two lbs.
I get home its nearly at 40psi, about 44 or so. Put in 2 quarts to fill it back up.
SES light came on, just a bad O2 sim, I pull the car up in the driveway and find a nice spot where the front end was.
Either the pump is leaking or a fitting came loose, I'll check it tommorow.
I did post a message on the c5 forum, its time for a mechanical unit!

I thought that it was either 1 or 2 gal per minute depending on the internal gearing. I think almost all of us got the 1 gal/min ones. No idea as to what rated pressure.

Went and looked at the flow curve. It will flow 1.5 gpm at 60 psi head and 2 gpm at 10 psi head. Its pretty much a straight line between the points, being thats its a positive displacement pump. Hopefully you will get a response on this from the corvette forum. Also the callaway setup used a belt driven pump so that may be an option. Could not find any information on in though. Also one of less features dry sump pump with just one pressure outlet and one scavenge inlet would work well, found several for around $300.

I told you guys those electric scavenging pumps are not reliable. Why do you think LPE uses a mechanical one?

Well I actually agree/agreed with Terry on this for a long time, BUT......where can a mechanical alternative be had.
Also, how much oil do the turbo's need, and is there anyway to setup the pump to supply the oil from the pan independent of the vehicle oil system? That way oil pressure in the motor does not effect oil pressure in the turbo.
I'm ready for a serious solution.

Here is one company that sells dry sump pumps:
http://www.razorperformance.com
Do a search you will find tons of companies. You really dont need lots of flow to the turbos. Say 40 -60 psi on about a 1/4" line. The sump would have to support about 2 gpm max, so just calculate how much vacuum it would take to move oil at about 2 gpm. May be I will crunch the numbers tomorrow.

Flow is from 1 to 2 gpm. At 50 psi head you get 1 gpm flow, not positve but i think its 10 psi head you get 2 gpm. If anyone wants I will scan in the instructions thats come with the pump.

Re: car sat for 3months = 4 qts low
They are all Tilton pumps, Incon just threw a stick over them.
Mines pumping oil out like mad. I got underneath today and tightened the fittings again just to make sure, and I cleaned the whole unit, plus the connectors so I can see where its leaking.
Drove it around all day, never leaked again until I just started it up in the driveway, a nice leak and puddle of oil.
I'm emailing Dave back and forth about it, see where we get.

Thats funny Incon must have forgotten to put there sticker on mine, it says Tilton. I bet if you pull off the tilten sticker you will find a Flowjet sticker. Tilten modifies a flowjet pump. Any luck on finding out who makes the pump for lingenfelter or callaway.
