Default TTI Kit oil return problem?????

I had an idea for the TTI oil return problem. I wanted to get you guys opinion on it. If you took an STS kits oil pupe and put it up there running in between the turbo and the oil pan would that work or would it suck oil out of the turbo to fast and burn it up. Do you guys see any problem with that?????? Let me know guys with all your turbo wisdom.

What is usually recommended is a small sump for the turbo to dump to and then pumped from there back to the pan. I think the Incon kits were like that but dont quote me. The problem with scavenger pumps is that they dont last real long between rebuilds so its kind of a pain in the ***. I once had oil return problems but I shortened up the drain hose to take the slack out and I dont know if its perfect but it doesnt back up in the turbo anymore. My smokey days are behind me right now. I also switched to Dino from Synthetic and I hear that helps too with the seals not pulling it through but I dont know??

I think I am having the same problem you are having, does it smoke under WOT, but only WOT? If so, I believe its a combination, to much oil getting to the turbo and not being able to drain fast enough. Need to get a valve to restrict oil flow and then make sure you take all the slack and shorten the return as much as possible.

Yeah thats when it like to pour out under WOT. Mine has slight downward curve but if you are on a slight hill it will smoke just trying to figure something out to stop all that embarassing smoke. You guys know what I mean.

Where is your drain hose at into the oil pan. Mine is on the drivers side corner of the oil pan. I don't think I can really shorten it anymore.Any ideas. Could you shoot me some pics of yours? Here is my e-mail z383stroker@yahoo.com.

I will try to snap a pic today. Also just for the hell of it what type of PCV setup do you have?

Sometimes you can pressurize the block with boost and then when you let off squirt oil into the intake depending on how you are setup. The stock pcv system was never made to handle FI.

Also are you still on stock block?? 00's are in that smokey loose ring time frame, thats another way to pressurize the block by blowby

It took me a long time to work out all my smoke demons. I did a shortblock, improved pcv setup and shortened the Drain hose all at the same time so Im not sure what really did the trick.

I got a all forged 346 and I have a catchcan instead of a PCV valve. I have a hose running form the back drivers side valve cover to the catch can with a breather on top of it. That should do it. I did cap off everything on the passanger side though running to throttle body. Should I reattach that and put a breather where you pour the oil in on the top of the valve cover???

I would reccomend a Metco in the oil fill location, they work good. right now you are supplying no vaccum though to evacuate the gasses in the case, you could put another fitting on the other side of the catch can and then run that to the fitting in the turbo inlet. That way you can provide vaccum under boost for evacuation purposes (but it wont work with a breather on the can)This is how I do it except I use the LS6 valley cover, I got the idea from Mighty Mouse. I am also running breathers on both sides, it works great.

You also may have bad seals in your turbo, even if its newer. The oil backing up in the bearing can ruin the seal so I guess all TTI street kits start off screwed because they almost always smoke. I called TTI once or twice and they said that there is no problem??

As far as oil restrictors, Smokinhawk lost a turbo like that so its not the best way to go even though some people have had success.

Do you run synthetic or dino oil??

I do run synthetic. I also have a valve from the intake valley cover down to the pipe with the filter on it so that takes care of that. I will try to put breathers on the valve covers and see what happens. The turbo is getting rebuilt as we speak so. All I know now is the oil return line problem. Maybe I can copy what you did and fix that.

we put our oil drain right over the oil drain bolt and it seems to work awesome. Also, make sure there is no pressure in the crankcase
