Default Turbo size / cubic inch?

Been reading this site for quite a while, just haven't posted much. I've have my '02 LS1 (stock cubes) sitting on the crossmember of my '91 300ZX slicktop, and to keep with the twin-turbo history it's the course I decided to go. I've been reasearching and came to a few conclusions but here's my question:

If my goal is ~500 crank horsepower (with room for a little growth over time), what turbos will provide the quickest spool?

I've been told two things on various forums thus far:

Turbo from an 86-87 Intercooled GN
and
T04e 50-trim

Can anyone else provide me with any more options? I've got the fuel, routing, and management settled, just not sure on turbo model/sizes.

If you only want 500hp at the crank, a twin turbo setup would probably not be in your best interest as far as "bang for the buck" goes. However, I have also been told that a pair of the GN turbos are suitable for an LS1.

If I'm still in the area when it's done, no prob!

I understand completely. I'm just looking at that as a conservative, low-boost application on a stock block without dished pistons.

Okay, now my cheaper option is reputable!

Any other input is more than welcome.

a 346 like you have as is will make 500fwhp easy with a cam and a set of heads. you swap pistons and rod bolts out (and heads) and could make 650 and beyond with those turbos

That's what I've been hearing, that those turbos have a lot of potential on these blocks.

precision makes a pte-63mm which is good for up to 700 crank hp i believe

For 500hp, a small 61mm unit will do the job and still give you a bit of room. Also it will spool extremely quick.

I must be misinterpreting... Or would those be two turbos with a 61/63mm compressor housing? Because when I looked up 61mm units they show a rating of ~680hp potential from each unit, and that's way to big...

Correct me if I'm wrong!

lol, that's what I thought. I'm just trying to stay away from large singles to help reduce spool time and have more streetable horsepower.

I'm doing the same thing. I was gonna have to weld up some custom headers so I decided just to make it a twin turbo. Man, that is gonna be one hell of a ride.

GN=???

Grand National, the 80's turbo Buick.

That's the route I've decided on going. On the Buick V6 I've seen the turbo crank out ~350hp as a single unit with ~22psi, but I'm going to run that high until the motor requires a rebuild and I replace the bottom end.

Nice to see you from 3ZC.com
