Ok, I am nearing my goal but before I am going to be able to get good 60' times I am going to have to install my 2-Step. It specifically warns against using it with CAT's installed... however I am intent on keeping my car street legal (Well able to pass an inspection). I have heard that there are short pipes that you can bolt on in place of your cats... then when inspection time comes drop those inserts out and re-insert the cats...

What other options are out there? Or who knows where to get something like this?

Replacing them with some sort of an intermediate pipe is really your only option, other than removing them totally, if you're going to use the 2 step.

Your basically dumping raw fuel into the exhaust system. Without getting into specifics your essentially killing the CATs.

 

I have these pipes that you're talking about. Install is VERY easy. Mine are made by Mufflex. PM me if you have any other questions.

 

it's actually the air that kills them, sorta.

Fuel is used to cool the substrate brick normally, but the slugs of air from misfire or 2 step give the extra fuel air to burn. Since cats are catalysts they burn that fuel, alot like your trust coleman camping lantern. It's normally north of 1400 C to melt the ceramic brick in the cat, and you will do just that if you use the 2 step with them installed.

now if you want to clean them out, set your 2 step for 5400 or higher and stand on it. Molten brick will be flying out of the tail pipe in 10 or 15 seconds.

Morral of the story. DO NOT use the 2 step if you have CATS on the car, cause you won't for long.

I don't even recommend using it with a cutout before the CAT and the cutout open. Test pipes or no 2 step IMO.

 

Put some cutouts before the cats...
Just make sure you have earmuffs

 

You'll still scorch and destroy them despite the cutout. Like Harlan said. It may take more than 20 seconds, but they're eventually going to burn. And ultimately a partially fused brick could have it's own bad news to think about.

And yes... I do have a rear mount turbo and I am trying to find a way to not fire a melting and flaming piece of ceramic through my turbo!

Now how much do you think removing my Cats will affect my turbo and or my tune?

 

I know first hand that your tune is gonna be way off when you pull the cats!
