I have an Incon TT car (or I will as soon as the turbos come back).

The car made 500rwhp and 530 ft/lbs. on the dyno at MMS when it was together the first time.

I have since added the following:
-ARE Stage II heads
-Turbo Cam
-LS6 Intake
-LS1Edit
-FJO Wideband o2 setup

Before I dyno again I will have:
-Complete fuel system (sumped '98 tank, 2 Walbro GSL392 pumps, custom racetronix harness, billet rails, Vortech Super FMU, (-10 line to the front splitting into a -8 into each rail...then -6 from each rail into the regulator), and 50 lb/hr MSD injectors that have been flow matched.)
-I may or may not hook up the intercooler misting system that I have put together...depending on time.

I'll let you know when it is on and take some pics!

Default Propane injection kit has arrived...

Guys,

I ordered this kit about 2 months ago when the topic came up in this forum. They were really back-ordered and I had actually forgotten about it.

Well, apparently it arrived at my house this week...so when I get home late tonight I will get to have a look at it.

I will try and get some pictures of all of the parts, but realistically the install won't happen for a few weeks because I want to get the turbos back on the car first...those should be shipped back to me any day now.

After I get the turbos on and some tuning done I plan on testing this thing out. The plan will be to run the propane kit with a pretty big jet on pump gas and 8-10psi of boost.

I tried to find a link to the kit, but the website that it was on, but I am thinking that they may not sell it as an individual kit anymore because they are so backed up...here is the website link propane kit

Thoughts?

are you sure that's the correct link? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
I've never seen simultaneous gasoline/propane feed - what's the advantage?
Running on straight propane I can understand; it's 108 octane allows lots of boost <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Yea that WAS the right link, but they took it off the site about a month ago do to the fact they are baack order like crazy.

the propane coools the intake charge and ups the octane. Main purpose to reduce knock, a more advanced form of alki injection.

Yeah, there are several advantages to using propane...but a big disadvantage is having a tank full of explosive gas in the car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Basically propane richens up the mixture and cools the intake charge.

My plans are to use the propane as an alternative for race gas...I am going to try and hook up something like a NOS bottle opener to is so that I can control it from the cockpit and go from street boost to race boost with a push of the button (boost controller) and a flip of the switch (bottle opener). I will have the propane injection on a relay and WOT switch.

I am hoping that this will be enough octane for me...I do have a drum of 100 octane race gas at home that I will be using if necessary.

Anyone know if burning propane is going to throw off the readings that I get on my WB? I was thinking about whether the burn of propane is the same lambda as gasoline? Anyone?

Thanks,

Scott

are you using DR's kit?

I think most people at DR is using a EGT gauge, vaglily remember that being asked about a wideband, but think it didnt effect anything.

Yeah, it is DRs kit...I ordered it a couple of months ago after I saw the thread and did some research. It was on backorder for a long long time and just came in.

The propane bottle is bigger then I thought that it would be, but it will still fit in the little compartment in the driver side rear...I am actually thinking about mounting the bottle behind my seat so that it will be protected by the cage in the event of an accident.

That is good news on the WB. I am not using an EGT, but I might pick one up in the future. The WB is the best tuning tool that I could have bought!

I have a fire jacket...think that will be good enough <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

That's not a bad idea either <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I'd like to keep it hidden, but if it was in the back seat then I wouldn't need a remote bottle opener!

Make sure that the tank has a relief valve vented outside the car and at a safe location. Remember the propane is a liquid in the tank and expands to a gas, so it needs a large relief valve and vent line. The tank should be DOT rated (hopefully) so it design to be used in a vechicle. If it does not have a relief valve or over fill valve make sure you get one installed.

How much did you pay for the kit anyway, if you dont mind me asking. Also you can add a EGT to each cylinder real cheap if you want to see how each cylinder is doing.

I think that the kit was $520 or so...it is hard to remember because it was a few months ago, but I am pretty sure that it was around that.

I'm not too sure if it is DOT rated or not...I will have to find out or hide it when I go to the track! Excellent idea on the relief valves.

I hadn't thought about adding an EGT to each cylinder. I think I would look into that more closely if I hadn't had the manifolds and JetHot coated when they came off the second time...I don't want to ruin the coating by adding EGTs. EGTs do have to be drilled and tapped into the manifold, right?

Thanks,

Scott

The tank should have came at least with a relief valve and over fill protection otherwise no one will fill it, it a law (they inforce it here). If the tank is DOT it would be stamped on the tank along with DOT regulation it meets. It just adds a little safety because it means they are tested for crash impacts, etc. The Incon manifolds are already tapped for the EGT. It has one for each cylinder and it also has them for the y's between two cylinders (so 4 locations total on the two manifolds). Only one of my locations was drilled out, but you just need an 1/8 drill bit and then buy a few type K thermocouples probes. You can also use just use stick on/epoxy on but that would be pretty inaccurate.

I will check on the DOT approval, I only looked at the kit briefly when I unpacked it...I will take a closer look when I get home on the 14th and report back.

I think that I will hold off on the EGTs, at least for the stock block...I am currently in the process of putting together a forged 360 setup and will definitely do it then! Would I have a gauge for each EGT? I think that would be a little cluttered.

SmokinHawk, I will get it shipped to you right away <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> ... I had to pull my Incon kit because I had a problem with one of the turbos after 600 miles, but I have been working closely with Tom and I hope to have them back in the next week or so <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Thanks,

Scott

Will NHRA approved tracks actually let you run that? BTW, be VERY careful with Propane. It explodes at 16,000 times it's volume. That's a pretty big bang! I might be a bit weary of a bottle heater.

I'm not too sure if it is approved by NHRA...I will have to check into it.

If not then I will run race gas at the track or get away with trying to hide the bottle and the associated hardware.

Yep, and explosion would suck...but drag racing is dangerous anyway. If the bottle was protected by the cage then I think that I would be ok in the event of a crash!
