Default foreign object destroyed my turbine wheel on a very pricey turbo

Not sure what went through, but it did a number on my ITS R wheel. Chewed it up about 1/4". I'm not sure how long it's been running like this either. I didn't pull the comp cover, but there is no radial play in the turbo so it should be ok unless I sucked up a foreign object sent it through the motor and back out. Inducer blades look fine though. Last time I had the housing off was 2 months ago or so and the wheel was fine.

This sucks, i'm guessing it's going to cost about 500-600 to get this thing fixed by the time i'm done. Guess i'll be making a phone call to Innovative tomorrow to get the total damage cost.

Before someone says it, i don't have cats.

Shitty shitty gang bang. I hope it dont start the wirrrrr of death. That has happened all to many times on my DSM. Any idea where the object, adn the blade, is now? Ya take any of the piping off to see if its stuck somewhere before it makes its way into the engine? And how the hell does tat happen. I run arounbd with out a filter alot and i dont have any damage on my turbo. Granted mine is up front but i dont think you run around with the filter off.
If it ends up costing 600 or so ya my as well just get a 88 and be done with it. lol GL man

Unless he plans on doin a forged motor, an 88 prob wouldnt be in his best interest.

but then again, ya never know

Just got off the phone with ITS

$319 for the turbine wheel
$250 for the rebuild
$219 to upgrade to an 80mm wheel

My wallet hurts
Not sure on what i'm going to do. I'm converting the car back to n/a for now though.

I'm just really concerned on what went through the exhaust side. I changed out my plugs 2 weeks ago and then regapped them this past weekend and they all look perfect. Couldn't ask for a better looking burn on any of them. No oil on them either.

If I lost a piece of piston I would start having motor issues wouldn't I? Car feels strong, doesn't consume oil, doesn't detonate either. I pulled the housing because I was going to do some experimenting with housing sizes. The turbo did feel like it became lazy recently and would not make over 14 psi no matter what I tried. I guess when you are missing 1/4" of your turbine wheel right where the scroll meets it hurts spool
