how many miles does your car have?, might not be a good idea to put a turbo on a tired motor. My LS1 had 60k on it when I put mine on and it did fine, until I cranked up the boost a little high and ...

Well thats import kids for you.....bunch of
know-nothings If I were you I'd buy a supercharger. Or possibly an Accel Superram System. You can get ssome pretty good gains from that intake and runner system. Screw the turbo and screw your import friends. Reminbds me of the damn hispanics and their tuuuuuuuuuuurbos.

1991 TPI. Similar to mine.
Step 1) Get a Holley Stealth Ram intake manifold and fuel rails. You'll gain 35-40 peak hp and 65-70hp in the upper RPM range (5000ish).
Step 2) Get some AFR heads. 195cc if you need street legal and 210cc if you don't. Count on $2000 complete with work. Get a solid cam at the same time. COMPUTER WORK REQUIRED. NEW INJECTORS REQUIRED. You should be WELL over 400rwhp at this point, approaching 500 or more at the crank.
Step 3) Get a new bottom end. Bore it and stroke it to 383 or just bore it to 355. Get all forged components. A 383 should be around 550 crank hp with the above mods. If you plan to go s/c or turbo, get 7.5:1 (12-16psi), 8:1 (10-12psi), or 8.5:1 (4-8psi) pistons with the setup.
Step 4) Power adder. A turbo or s/c would bring you WAYYY up in power. You'll need more than just a new bottom end to contain this. The mods are expensive and you have to be careful.
I suggest grabbing a heads cam intake package and scaring yourself with your new-found power.

i put my turbo on at about 55k, it now has about 60k, im redoing the engine now cause of gaskets problems. when i opened the engine up, there was bearing wear, dont think they could have lasted much longer, they were about ready to fail.
of course i didnt drive it like a grandma from about 45k-55k mi.

If you realy want to know about the basic of turbocharging go to a book store and by Maximum Boost written by Corky Bell. There is more useful information in any given chapter of that book than every issue of Turbo magazine ever published.
