Has anyone figured this out yet? I am talking about 6.0L heads with a compression of 9.1:1 and a BB Forged 346ci shortblock.. I am real curious.... I am talking about with studs as well. LS1edit tuning..

 

havent found the max boost yet on my set up yet, but with 9.0:1 CR, 348ci forged rods pistons i run 10psi on 94 octane with less the 0.9 degrees knock.
have arp studs, cometic gaskets. 6.0 heads.

had mine up to 15 on 93 pump gas, 17 degress advance. Head gaskets looked great when i pulled the motor apart. Was out of MAF so I couldn't go much further.

6.0 heads, forged pistons, billet rods, stock crank, 8.7:1 CR

my bearing failure wasn't related to the power levels, still diagnosing the failure.

 

Thanks guys.. So between 10 and 15lbs seem to be the max so far.. Secondary to MAF and tuning.. I will shoot for that goal..

 

Yes the MAF is what's limiting us as of now. I know Rob uses the SLP MAF but he ran 15psi and made 707rwhp through a th400 automatic tranny. Don't know if he maxed it out or not.

 

A static maf is the very least of your troubles.
Unless Rob decided to cut the reported flow with whatever method, trust me had a nice flatlined maf at that power level.

That is not a serious issue though and is one of the least of my worries.
There are many ways to add more fuel without using the maf once it becomes static.

There is no "max boost" for anything.
Max cylinder pressure before stuff goes wrong maybe. You could run no timing, and crazy amounts of boost, and not have an issue. Max boost on pumpgas or 118 octane racing gas?

 

How much PSI all depends if you can keep it from detonating. IF you can then i dont see any problem with 20 psi. It is just keeping the detonation away. I would actually like to see what happens as I am planning a ls1 motor in my near future. Want to see how to work a blower on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Ill have to look at my efi logs tell me. Im not sure as i didnt program it Detroit speedworks did.

 

well I just spent all day tuning my combo with a in car wideband on the road under real world real loading.
11psi by 6000rpm - Ported G-trim Vortech, 346ci 9.4-1 compression.
22 degrees timing , 93 octane with 16gph 60/40mix-3 nozzle alcohol/water injection and no intercooler.No knock retard.
This is a brand new combo and so far it's making fantastic power without any issues.
Plugs dry as a bone,no coolant temp rise.
Started at a very rich 10.2-1 and ended at 11.2-1 A-F. Had to dial back the fuel quite a bit with the alky flowing.
About 60hp being supported by the alcohol and around a 100 degree drop in IAT.
This is going to be my street tune.
I really think if you can keep the iat way down, and keep away detonation you can run a lot of power without lifting the heads.

And thanks to KP for his wideband! Can't see ever trying to tune again without having one in the car.

here's a spirited run from last night.
IAT at around 122 before I began.
As a comparison,with my 5psi pulley and no water/alky flowing, it hit 147 degrees.
This was at 10psi.Without the system flowing, IAT would have been over 200.

Thats spirited alright.. What is the max amount of horsepower to the wheels do we think we can get out of a forged 346ci with 6.0L heads and 9.1:1 compression? I know tuning is the key.. Any guesses?

 

well on the 10psi on pump gas (9.0:1 CR) im at 512/536 on the mustang dyno. I can see my self easily making over 600rwhp with race gas and more boost.
i looked at a few of my logs and the MAF has reached 12222, whatever that means.

 

Is this on a H/C setup?

 

yes 6.0 heads home ported, and a 224/224-114 cam

 

I am definately going with 6.0L heads.. I am going to try to go with studs, .078 gaskets, and a smaller cam on a 114 lsa..
