why no blow off & turbo timers
why is it that a incon twin turbo kit has no blow off valve? And does anyone with a turbo charged v8 use turbo timers or is it a 4 banger thing. If it saves my turbos for $100 it's a must have.

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
Since the Incon kit was designed for low boost it really did not need a blow off valve. The turbo timer is a waste of money at least with a water cooled turbo.

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
If you drive smart you shouldn't need a turbo timer ever IMO. I have a spot that i remember to slow my a$$ down and let the turbo cool if i decide to get into boost alot. I just remember to cool everything down a little before shutting off.
Blow off valves on auto cars are not that necissary I have seen but... I prefer to have that extra safety level there of the bov heck it is only 200 bucks not much compared to a turbo rebuild cause you hammered the impeller. I am running 2 on my car for a few reasons.
*One cause I prefer the safety of having it.
*Two cause I drag race and at the end of the track I do not and can not have the throttle open partially so I go through traps and shut down, which is not good for a turbocharger.
*Third I am like a monkey and like shiny things under my hood
Just my daily rambling though

re: Turbo Heat & Timers..
You only have to worry about this when shutting the car down, right?
Do you ever have to worry about Turbo temps while driving the car under continuous boost?

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
Shouldn't have to worry about the turbo temp of the housing itself as you have oil going through it at all times. It is when it stops pumping oil and it is very hot that you have to worry as the turbo doesn't have a way to cool itself down.
As for driving you should be cooling it down so to speak a bit as you are prob not running around in full boogie mode alot or you are gonna have alot of tickets
Mello did you decide on a turbo as of yet? Just curious

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
I have a incon kit but the turbo are changed to a little smaller turbo (600hp) spool up quicker, and i am runing on 93 pump gas. All incon turbos are Garrett water & oil cooled and are dual ball bearings. My manifolds, down tubes, and intake tube are jetcoated, so they have to be geting much hotter. oh and no scavage tanks. boost levels at 10psi and about 50hp nos hope it does not blow up

Hey whats up 2fst4u, i was at detroit speedworks getting my transam tuned when you came to check up on your car.
you shouldnt need a turbo timer as long as you use synthetic, just have it changed every 2k miles, just to make sure. I always let mine idle at least 10 seconds before i turn it off, or drive off in it.
dont think you need a BOV since youll probably be running 10psi or under, but if you realy want you could put one on, if you like the sound.
how is your twin turbo camaro coming anyways?
if it was me id chuck that over done steoro or at least make it removable for when you autocross, that car is going to be a PIG.
well good luck.

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
It is my understanding that the turbo timers are there to fix the coking problem that occurs with dino oil. With synthetic, it doesn't coke so you don't need a timer.

Re: why no blow off & turbo timers
Try this little test if you want to know the time required for a proper turbo cool-down (yes, water-cooled turbo owners should do this, too)
At night, drive normally to some location where it is very dark. Wait your normal period of time for what you think will cool the turbo(s) down. Now pop the hood, or crawl under the car and take a good look at the glowing red-hot exhaust turbine and cartridge. Even if the cartridge doesn't SEEM to be red (comparatively), remember that the heat will continue to migrate to the bearing surfaces until it is all dissipated.
I did this test with my Talon, T-50 water cooled turbo after extreme babying and a "long cool-down". Then I bought a timer, because I was just amazed at how long 3 minutes could be, and how inadequate even that really was. This is especially true on an oil cooled turbo.
