Default Got a '98 With False Knock? Step In!!

I'm hearing from some that there is nothing you can do . . . I am getting some 100 today to test, but I'm pretty sure I have false knock problems, and I've heard they plague 98's. Has anyone found a fix for this? I've heard some people say that it's the belt tensioner; mine squeeks and jumps a couple of ribs under hard acceleration, I wonder if that could cause it? Anybody else solve this in any other way??

Mine is a '98.

I've always gotten around 1.4 to 1.9 degrees of KR at WOT whether it was with the blower or not, 93 octane or 108.

Who knows?

I wish that's all I was getting. I'm showing 3.5-4 when WOT!!

Doug, you may want to check your knock sensors. I had a moisture issue with my rear one. I believe there was even a TSB for this.

Jas, did you have to replace it? How hard is it to do yourself? You have to remove the intake to get at it, right?

The intake comes off and the sensors are screwed into the metal plate bolted between the heads.

You can see a pic of it on my GWP 422 thread.

I get kr on my 98 about 95% of the time I go WOT. But mine usually doesn't show up until I shift from one gear to the next. It gets a spike of about 3*, then dies off until the next shift. I have been assuming that was because I didn't have the engine at the same rpm for the wheels, and when I release the clutch it just puts a lot more load on the engine until the rpms have equalized. But maybe it's not me...I'd like to hope so.

Well, turns out I don't have false knock . . . dumped in some 100 and cranked the boost up to 7psi . . . no knock except at high rpms when it's going lean. I'm going to add more fuel to take care of that . . .

I just tuned on the dyno today and couldn't get rid of knock around 3700 to 4100, it is usually about 3-4.5 knock. These 98's are pains.

I solidered in a 1K resistor in each wire going to the knock sensors. No more false knock.
