Default ATI Idler Fix

It seams that everybodys ATI idlers have worn out. I can make them out of heat treated steel so they will never wear out again. I have already sold a batch of 10 to people on LS1tech.com.

Im looking for more people that want them. I will make another batch up if there is intrest. the price is 48 shipped (ATI wants 90 for an aluminum one that dosent even last a year). These parts are top quality CNC machiened out of 4140 HT.

Would you consider sending them COD, i would pay the COD fee, which is only 7 bucks, so it would total 55 bucks, i live here in Michigan, and am interested in one.

Really nice pictures JAS. I will get on the 8 rib shortly.

thanks for the business.

ATI is really stupid to make idlers out of aluminum because they wear out really fast plus aluminum is like 4 times the price of steel.

My ATI kit gets installed right after Thanksgiving, so hopefully they don't wear out too quickly!!

How much of this is the bearings wearing out vs. the pulley itself?

LS1bird

I would recommend that you get a steel idler because the aluminum ones wear out in a hurry. Im currently sold out but i can put your name on a list so you can get one when i make more.

I dont think anyone has worn there bearings out yet. I think the ATI kit has only been out a year so nobody has found out yet. Bearings are cheap anyways its just the inconvinence of taking the blower off to change them.

Is the idler pulley the same on the C5 in size and everything?

If so, can you add me to the list?

Here is a C5 thread about C5 idler pulley bearings failing and recc'd replacement bearings. Anyone want to comment?

Is this a big issue with the 5.3 truck engines? I have a procharger on order for my 02 Yukon, and if this is an issue, I'd like to address it before I drop on the blower.

I dont know if the idler on your truck is an issue but if its made out of alumium it will wear really fast.

camarogod- Really nice work man. Question, are the aluminum idlers wearing out so fast due to having to keep an extremely tight belt for the correct boost, or just what? I have read all the threads i could about the belts slipping over 6+/- psi and it would make sense that the idlers are going to hell from those running higher boost cranking the belts. I'm interested in this cuz I am going to be joining the FI world here this spring (either LS1M single turbo or P/D1SC) and if I go SC dont want to replace the idler and still have a slipping belt. Feed back?

TIA, Charlie.

I think the idlers are wearing out so fast because of the rotating speeds involved and alot of people run alot of belt tension so they dont slip. I dont know why ATI would make them out of aluminum. Aluminum is 5 times more expensive than steel!
