Default What head gasket and bolts to use?

Running 7 PSI what head gasket and bolts should I use> The engine is out now and it would be time, or should I even worry about it?

When you order your cometics be sure to get the HP series which are alittle different than the standard cometic, the gaskets is actually a few thousandths thicker around the cylinder.

I tried about everything out there as far as head gaskets go, I finally have settled on extra thick solid copper gaskets with arp studs...
Last time the motor had to be rebuilt, we found the head gaskets didn't blow, and the bolts didn't stretch, but the head actually bent 0.020 in between the bolts. Damn aluminum is pretty but it bends too easy.... <img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" />

I wonder if these LS1 heads could be "Pinned"?

I had Champion Heads in FL. "pin" my 89 Turbo Trans Am heads. It envolves drilling 3 holes through the heads and the having steel pins pressed in. This keeps the heads from flexing at high boost levels. This work is fairly common in the Turbo Buick community, but I have not heard about it here with the LS1 guys yet.

I would bet this would be the ticket for these LS1 heads too. The head lifting problem can be traced in many instances to actual head flexing.

I'm not sure there is enough meat in the right area to allow for that, but i would love to see if it works , we looked into putting additional fasters in but the shaped of the water jacket didn't look like it would be feesable...

Wheres the best place to get the cometic and ARP studs? thanks for all the input. BTW at what boost level was tha head bending? Was it due to detonation?

Yes the heads had been milled previously to get the correct geometery that we wanted... then it detonated on the dyno, sounded more like a ping when it did not the full blow detonation... and it lifted the heads in between the studs...I had to tone back my compression ratio after that and i'm now running a stock CR.
Cheapest place I've seen to get the studs is from Jegs, I believe you have to get cometic gaskets directly from cometic, I have a set of 0.060 dead soft copper ones in stock for my own car, just incase... I suppose i could sell them a replace them later, what exactly do you need?

Thanks for the reply. I dunno exactly what gaskets to use, I am kind of relying on input from everyone to guide me in the right direction. What are the options? And which do you think would benefit a totally stock motor (with the exception of 42# injectors and p1sc with 3.25? pulley) the best?
