Default AFR or EGTgauge

Which is a better indicator of proper / improper fuel provision in a single turbo car. I'm not looking to tune with it, just have an early warning system in case things get out of whack.

I think an EGT gauge is more accurate and easier to setup good then an AF gauge. An AF gauge will tell you if you got enough fuel but a EGT gauge will tell you if your fuel has enough octane to not burn up your motor.

Both a wideband o2 and egt on each cylinder.

i think he was looking at staying practical <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

i would get a good fuel pressure gauge, very necessary.

as an early warning system, i think the a/f gauge would show a abrupt change quicker.

I was being serious. I already have a wideband o2 and have ports in my exhuast manifolds for 8 egt ports. Spend another $200 and you can record the egts.

Ummm, I don't have the money for a wideband O2 and 8 point EGT. Besides it's a bit overkill for a WARNING system don't you think? I'm not looking for a tuning tool (That will be done on a dyno)

Anyway, what I'm concerned about with the AFR gauge is too much info. The way the AFR gauges work with the lights and all, it seems to me that it deminishes in value as you begin to ignore the "pretty light show". Is this a valid concern? Also, what's the practical utilization of the EGT? In other words, what is a "normal" reading vs lean / problematic?

Use an egt gauge. A wideband is the only a/f gauge i would even consider, but at the price go with an egt. High egt readings on a FI car are 800 deg. Do not buy the autometer egt get a good one (greddy one is great for 150+-). you shouldnt get too much over 800 deg. on WOT 4 th gear pull. Not enough timing can cause high egt readings along with not enough fuel. You can find greddy gauges online.

Wear are you measuring 800 degrees. That is extemely low, most of the temperatures I have seen are at least 1500 deg or higher.
