whats this guy using to build boost?
I've never seen an anti-lag setup on the drag strip... I've seen it in WRC, though... I thought 2-steps were the limit for dragging street turbo cars... maybe I need to get out to the track more though.
So anti-lag "bang bang" PLUS the 2-step... So, this means, ideally, the driver can launch at ANY RPM he wants PLUS have, not just decent boost, but nearly full or full boost ON LAUNCH! Is this the deal?
On a side-note, what the hell would a multi-stage boost controller do to help a launch, anyway???

Do I have it all wrong in thinking that the WRC cars use an anti-lag system that injects fuel directly into the red hot turbo, aimed at the vanes to keep it spooled?? This is the way it was originally explained to me, but the systems described on this thread make a lot more sense!
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ to be honest i dont know! i ask some people about it before and they said the latest WRC teams are using a less stressfull means of antilag! i have also heard of people running a standard anti-lag set up and blowing fuel into the exhaust! sufice to say i dont think their turbos would last very long!!
it would make scence to spray something (why not fuel??) onto the turbine, but it dose seem a complicated mesure for an already tried and tested method! and dont forget these things dont lag anyway! they run something like 10.5-1 comp. ratios anyway and spend a hell of a lot of money on maching turbos to thier engines!
but from what i heard on this years rally GB they are still using a bang-bang type of system!
thanks Chris.

I guess they super harden/cryo or heat treat the housings/impellers since they must sometimes run 10 stages of up to 20 minutes each of twists and turns where they are in and out of boost (and therefore the anti-lag) the whole way, before the crews can replace the turbo. This is not just for a 6-10 second straight through run!!
/\/\/\/\/\/\ your right there! and the drivers use left foot braking to help keep the turbo spooled! its the craziest thing seeing the brake lits and hearing an engine still at full chat!
i know they run the turbos very hot! ford had a problem in 2000/1 i think with their manifold and the welds on them! they spent a lot of time and money making sure nothing would break off and hit the turbine blades, thus smashing them. so they must have been running ceamic blades or something! also one of the machanics was changing an exhaust system over and put his hand over the tail pipe after the car was turned off! it then set his nomex glove on fire!!!!!! a artile i read on the team said they had exhaust gas temps of over 1100 degrees C!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also i think most teams leav the turbos on all rally! so they are running at full chat for upto about three hours over a three day (well two and a bit) period! and these things have to start (and run) in all conditions, be it minus 20 #c and in snow, or + 40#C in the desert! and then cover about a 1000 miles of road driving inbetween stages! makes a mockery of F1 thats for sure!!!!
thanks Chris.
