Default turbo question????

i'm looking to put a turbocharger in my trans am, but i still want to use it as an everyday driver. What i want to know is how much hp would i be pushing with boosting only 2# on a single turbo setup?

Thanks for the help!

why only 2psi? YOu can run 5psi with no problem. I would think single is worth what 20-30hp per psi. so 2 psi would be like nothing.

if you only going to push 2 psi, save your self some money and geta set of heads, cam, exhaust, and youll be making alot more power then with 2psi and will be alot cheaper.
if you go the FI route, go all the way or go home.

First, how much power do you want to make?

With boost you can pick <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

20 to 30 RWHP per psi, reguardless of single or twin turbo, is about right on a 346 cu in stock head and cam motor

For the money, if you're only looking to make another 40 to 60 RWHP (that's about 2 psi) save your money. Spray it or do a cam swap. Heads will get you more than cam alone, but the cost goes up a bit.

Unless you're going for the show value of saying you've got a turbo <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Nothing says bling, bling like a turbo V8 <img border="0" alt="[worship]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />

well like i said, i will be using the car as an every day driver, so i will have to drive it in the snow, rain, etc.. with the turbo setup on my car i can boost 2# just for daily driving, but in nice weather or when i take it to the track i'll boost a lot more. what I wanted to know is if anyone has driven a turbo ls1 as an everyday driver with boosting low?

Thanks for the help!

My guess is 360 RWP with 2 lb's of boost. IMHO though, that is just a waste of a turbo

If you are going to use it as a daily driver running 2#'s or 50#'s isn't going to make a difference unless you get on it.

Run 5-8psi on the turbo, and just don't drive like a maniac to work. That is the great thing about turbo's.... if setup properly, you get monster HP AND drivability.

Good Luck,
Kevin

I daily drive my TTA, it sucks in the snow, we get alot of snow (sucks, not cause of the power). I boost set at 10psi all the time, got a MBC (gonna turn it up when race gas goes in), but you have a boost controller its called your right foot.
just dont get on it and youll be fine.

Like Jon (smokinhawk) said, just set it up and tune it for whatever your top power pump gas setting will be (usually 7-10psi) and drive it normally. Just don't hammer it and you won't see full boost. It won't make ANY boost at low throttle anyway. A little bit of "right foot maturity" goes a long way...

40hp gain for $6500 is not a good bang for the buck.

Just don't beat on the car when you drive in snow, rain, or in parking garages. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I have daily driven an 11.0 car that could break the tires loose at 80mph but I rarely did that since I would scare folks (and myself).

Then when i want i can break the my street tires loose at 100mph <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I drive my twinturbo all the time and its great. No boost unless you put your foot in it. I nvr had problems in the snow with the turbos ether until I put the th400 in.
