Default How safe is this?

I just got my Vortech 9# kit and I'm wondering about how safe it will be. I'm hoping to safely be over 500 rwhp with the following set up.

Vortech 9# Supercharger
TR Supercharger cam
Hooker LT headers
ORP
Loudmouth exhaust

I have been told that the duration of that cam will bleed off some of the pressure. Wouldn't that be a good thing as far as making it safe? Do you think this set up will safely make over 500rwhp?

I don't know too much about cars but you may want to save up a few thousand extra for a rear, drive shaft and a clutch.

9#'s huh? watch your air/fuel and do regular plug readings, especially #7. what are the specs on that cam? if your duration is high enough and depending on the lsa, it will blow some out the exhaust. that's no fun.

bear in mind that a pulley designed to make 9# on a stock engine might make less on a cammed engine. Not significantly but sinse superchargers move air based on engine RPM and that cam is letting you blow more air into the cylinders, manifold pressure will drop some.

Also, if you aren't running an aftercooler, you might consider it. It isn't going to be cylinder pressure that kills it at that boost level. It will be running lean or detonation. The aftercooler will help prevent the later of the two.

Good luck!

I figured just about everyone that knew superchargers knew about that cam. Sorry, its "Thunder Racing Custom Split Pattern Camshaft for Nitrous/Supercharger applications- 224/227 .563/.569 114 LSA (This cam will check in the 226 range on the exhaust lobe.)"

The 9# vortech kit is aftercooled.

My thinking is that the cam will help bleed off some of the pressure making it safer on the motor, and will give it more usefull HP range that will hopefully max out a little over 500.

I have the rear end covered.

Sounds like a good plan. You might want to look into Procharger kits. They seem to make more power than the vortechs.

theres no reason in having the intake charge blow through because it does two things....blow raw fuel into your exhaust system...which will make you not pass emmisions (if they are a concern) and rob the power potential. You want to have as little overlap as possible in your camshaft..if the camshaft is made for blower, nitrous...then its fine...basically the exhaust side is more of your concern than your intake side..

The cam is Thunder Racing's Supercharger/Nitrous cam. I figured they knew what they were doing when they made the cam, but I have been told by some people that it has to much duration and would bleed off some of the pressure. Others have told me that 9#'s is to much. So I put two and two together and came up with the thought that if 9# is to much, but the cam would bleed some off it would still be safe.

Hopefully the people at Thunder Racing knew what they were doing when they designed this cam.

I don't care about emissions. I already have headers/oryp/Loudmouth....or strait pipes.

The question was about being safe for the motor, not me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
