How much timing on 7 psi ATi
did the plumbing that came with yours suck as much as mine did? <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

I STILL ran 22 degrees timing running 10 PSI boost, but it took mixing 100 Octane with 93, or adding 1/2 can of TORCO Octane Booster. I did that for street driving and mixed 100 Octane when I went to the strip.
The difference in power between 18 degrees and 22 degrees is substantial. But, you got to be willing to do what it takes to keep KR below 3.0 and detonation eliminated.
I personally don't stress over 1 or 2 degrees of knock retard. Audible knocking or greater than 3 degrees of KR I do something about.
Good luck!

Running rich kills power, too.

I suppose I could make more than 462 on my stock engine if I got a bit more aggressive with tuning. But I didn't want to be a slave to that 100 octane mixed fuel on my daily commuter.

<strong> How much of a power difference is there between 17 degrees and 22 degrees timing? </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This is a guess but I would say about 40hp if you can get there with no KR.
22 seems way too high at peek tq on pump gas. 22 up top might be good.
You need it to be a few degrees lower at peek tq and then ramp it up towards redline. I would start at 15 and add until you see KR.
