If you look at this past issue of gmhtp, they have a nice article on how they choose a car to be in the magazine. It gets pretty detailed to down to "there should be only 2 fingers between your tire and the fender. Its worth the read.

I read the article in GMHTP but i already sent them my info.
Also I think its weired they only look at certian cars, It has to be low, painted wheels help! What is that all about? Not everyone wants to see a lowered, heads and cam F-body! Show me some Supercharged, Turbo, 427ci, wild stuff like some of the cars on this sight! I know I dont want to see the same cars over and over, Show me a white car, sunset orange or hugger orange. enoph with the red and blue! Not that i mind those colors but show me somthin ealse!! Not to sound cocky or anything but my car is as good as most of the cars in their!
Another thing is Show me a 22 yearold kid with a car like mine, a driver, whats with the "miles drivin weekly.....50" Ask me that and its like 500 miles per week! It looks good, goes good, and gets used all the time!! It is a reality car not a $100,000.00 dream! and like I said im only 22, I bust *** to build my car! I take care of my car better then most people take care of their kids!!
My car wins all types of shows, I just won the World of Wheels this winter in Boston, after I went up and got my first place win, I packed up and drove the car home in the snow!!! I mean come on, That is the type of car I want to see every once in a while. I like to see the shop cars and the 50 yr old welthy mans car that gets driven 4 times a year and raced 1 time in the last 5, Im sorry but I just dont know why in the last 3 years I have got 1 call about the Readers rides and still havent seen my car in their yet! I think after all my mods and all the leters and pics i sent them, they should atleast come look at the car, Give me a chance I dont think they will be disapointed

I talked to Rick today and cc'd him this thread.

I think we should assume a clean sheet of paper with respect to how they might want cars to look... Rick is very nice and has been to our site a few times.

We only run four cars per issue, so it could be a while before yours gets in. Please be patient

I know you're well aware of our upcoming LS1/LT1 shootout, but it sounds like your car may not even see a dragstrip until around the time Rick is picking cars for the shootout. It seems ironic that you would be critical of cars we've featured that only get driven four times a year and raced once in the last five, when you don't have any times on your own car yet. As nice as your car may be, it would really be difficult for Rick or any other editor to pick your car for a shootout without knowing what the car has done on a track.

We'd love to pay everyone a visit and check out their cars, but that's just not possible. GMHTP does hold races at Englishtown which are an excellent opportunity for folks to get their vehicles in front of our cameras and we do cover other events, but car shows, like World of Wheels, aren't high a high priority.

Johnny's editorial shouldn't be interpreted as a hard set of rules one must adhere to in order to get into a magazine, but rather general guidelines that could improve your chances.

Jim, couple things,
1-- I have seen plenty of cars in GMHTP without time slips, or dyno #'s. So i have dyno #'s and theack time is in 10 more days!!!!! I have only had my car the way it sits for a couple months, The track I go to is closed till april 2nd I have times from befor all the work was done,12.4 on a bolt on car, NOT BAD!(street tires!)

2--- I am not saying you have to come to me, I will go to you but I need a time and a place, I never got a call to tell me who to see and when to see them, I will go to the shoot out, But I dont have a tralior and I live 6 hours from E-town so racing it would be out! I couldnt aford a tow home if she broke! Im better off to go to my local track and get #'s then maybe meet with someone and show my car
Anyway thanks for the info and I will have #'s ASAP, I cant wait to go!!!!!!!!

Brad, the events GMHTP covers are not a secret. Anyone who reads our magazine knows we're at Englishtown every year for our own events and SLP day. Those, as well as events like the Bristol Bash are excellent opportunities for anyone looking to get some magazine exposure.

I don't have my magazines with me, but it seems like it's been a while since we ran a feature on a car without track numbers to go along with it. I know I did Fred Dryer's car and the Sprewell car with only dyno numbers, but those were both a few years ago. There may have been a few since, but I think the days of running features on cars without track numbers may be numbered.

Honestly, it sounds like your car isn't quite ready for a magazine yet. You said yourself you're still doing some modifications and you haven't gotten any numbers on it either. Magazines would much rather wait on a car like yours until you've finished modifying it, gotten a good feel for what it does on the track and maybe even managed to save up enough scratch to travel. Given the modifications you have, it's especially important to know what your car runs, as there are so few completed TT LS1 F-bodies out there right now.

Default Re: I want my car in GM High Tech!!!!

Hey Jim, I would guess that you have a car, being a writer for the Bible of GM cars!!(F-bod I hope)So I would also guess that you know With an F-bod or any sports car that the car is never done, or "Finished Being Modified". I will be doing something to the car for as long as I own it, trying new things adding things, changing things, you know, Its always something!!! So I guess that is one problem with me trying to get into GMHTP.
Another thing is that I dont have "Enough Scratch" to travle, so that brings me back to the 50 yr old guys with plenty of $$$ and dream cars! My opinion is and Im sure most of the people reading GMHTP,Show me some reality cars, 22 years old, car like that. That type of thing!!! show me drivers, show me real cars you would see on the street!!!! But I wouldnt stop reading GMHTP, I love all the cars in it!!
As for not showing Track times or dyno #'s, I would have to look threw every GMHTP I have but I have 3 right infront of me, january 2000 "Speed Freak" no #'s, November 2002 Parting Shot (Orange Crush) No Track #'s(Cover Car), May 2003 LT Four-midable No HP #'s (Again cover car) My point is all the cars I listed have one thing missing, HP or Track #'s! Do you think anyone cares? The cars are unreal!! Who on this board cares that one # was missing?????? I sure dont, great cars to look at!!! Loved reading about them!!! But no #'s!!
I will try like hell to get to E-town but I think not showing the common folk car in your Mag is unfare! I think it sucks that if you dont have the $$ to travle your Sh!% out of luck, Looks Like Brad should get a third job so he can go to E-town!!! Not far! My friends dad had a Hemi car, Car Craft came to him! They set up a hole set and shot his car!! He didnt even ask, they called him! I will try to get to E-town and now that I vioced my opinions I know my chances of getting in to GMHTP are slim to none so I guess winning car shows and races around here will have to do!! I live for my car every penny I save goes into it, I guess I feel that the Hundreds of dollars it would cost me to go To E-town would be better spent on Modding my Car!! Just sucks That the common person has to give up a spot because he cant travle to you! A car like mine or alot of cars on this bord would bring alot of attention to your Mag!! I guess Ive said all I have to for now, I would like to hear some opinions from members of LS1Tech, Am I wrong? If I am I will drop it and Walk away!!! Let me know
Thanks
Brad

Brad, I wouldn't say your chances are slim to none, I just don't think the time is right yet. I think most folks would agree the story on the SOM car would have been better if we had track numbers on the car. I don't have the Speed Freak issue with me, but people like Sikora don't feel the need to post dyno sheets on the Internet as a measure of how great their cars are. They(not a shop) build their cars to race and the only number they really care about is what the car runs at the track and that's fine with us.

As for the issues of travel and "reality cars," if you look back at our LT1 shootout, you'll find almost all of the cars were owned by guys in their 20s (I don't think any of them were in their 50s). None of them were local and some came from distances as far away as Texas. Plenty of them had to scramble, scrape and save just to get to E-town. For some folks a magazine story may fall in their laps, while others may need to exert a little more effort. Ask Sikora what he had to do to get his car on the cover.

Car show trophies are great and a strong indication of how clean a car is, but personally, awards from shows like World of Wheels don't impress me much. Maybe the show in your area was different, but I put my bone stock 2002 SS in the Chicago WoW and walked away with top honors, just because I happened to have the right car for my class- contemporary convertible. The MFBA entered 12 cars that year and everyone came away ith an award. How fair is it to the folks that put $10,000 into their display that someone with a totally stock car surrounded by orange cones and string can leave the show with the same award? I know many of those folks take those shows very seriously and I think the organizers do a dis-service to their core participants when they hand awards out like candy. That show had about 500 cars and more than half and possibly as many as 80% won some kind of award. They even had two awards for "miscellaneous."

As I mentioned earlier, track numbers are so important for a car like yours, because you have a relatively new combination that is of great interest to a lot of folks. The Magnacharger Vette was very similar and we felt dyno and track numbers were critical, so folks could get as accurate a comparison as possible to other modifications that would yield similar numbers. I realize most people are never "finished" modifying their car, but at some point, they need tangible numbers to see if what they're doing is making a difference.

You're not the only person who would rather spend a few hundred dollars on their car instead of getting into a magazine. We've had more than a few folks decline a feature for that very reason and that's totally understandable. Our budget is limited too, so we the do the best we can with what's available.

Jim, I am now starting to ramble, This is going nowhere. I understand you have your rules and budgets you need to follow, And I will do what I can to work around you. Maybe you could list some dates and places you will be over the summer and I can hopfully work my way to an event.

As for the WoW, the compitition in Boston was much greater.I was in a class with 12 other cars from 1989 to present, I had some sweet rides in my class. And my class was a MODIFIED class, no stock cars!! I beat one stang that has been showing for 4 years now and never took anything but 1st place!(Till the stang met the NOYZEE)
WoW is not the only show I have won, I also took class winner in the Super Chevy show at NED two years in a row, I had 10-13 cars in my class from 93 to presant! Some of the cars where new and some old.I also win alot of smaller shows as well. I do understand that shows dont mean the car is magizine material, Which is fine but believe me Just because Im ending this now, it is not the last you will see of me, I dont give up and I promiss you that one day you will have Should I say will WANT my car in GMHTP!!!!
I also heard my track is running a week behind but I will have track #'s ASAP!!!!!
Thanks for all your time and now I know what GMHTP expects from their cars.

Chris Sikora's car went 9.4 the first full day it was out after fighting a bunch of small problems over the prior year, and it has never been dynoed.

I have been fortunate over the years to have been in regular contact with Johnny Hunkins, Chris Endres and now Rick and Jim, and have been able to suggest cars here and there to them... Of tha many suggested, only a handful were featured for the reasons stated above.

GMHTP has a limited budget, so if they are going somewhere to 'shoot a car they also try to 'shoot over cars in the same city at the same time. If you don't happen to be ready and IN one of those cities you might need to come to them...

Of all the friends I have seen get featured in GMHTP, only two of them were over 30.

Well, I guess Im over my head, It seems to me like the main cars I see are not drivers at all! But I could be wrong.
Also I have about 10-15 Fbodies that I hang around almost every night, It would be a good trip to come to mass and or Conn, I know 3rd gen and 4th gen cars, TA's Z's SS's, from Stock 25th anniversery cars to 825 rwhp Bullets!! The trip up North for GMHTP could be a good on! N2O cars, Turbo cars, SC cars, Head cam cars, cam cars, Bolt on cars, we have them all!!! New England Dragway could be a good spot for them to see some hot F-bods!!
Just letting you know! Thanks for the heads up and Like I said I Will be Back!!!

Hey I thought I'd put one up here in your favor for you Brad. I think your car is definately GM high tech Performance Material. Although I dont know what is so high tech about a prototype twin turbo kit J/K. You definately drive the car a hell of alot. It even does get dirty sometimes, hint the nickname dirty white Z although most of the people on this board may only be able to see the clean pics cuz you are constantly cleaning it. I am not a huge reader of GMHTP so I dont know to much about the cars they feature but i know that the few issues I have read your car is just as equal as the ones they feature. We unfortunaly dont get any magazine coverage or anythign up in our area. I dont know why but it seems we dont and have to travel a ways to get into things liek magazines and stuff. I know you have been trying to get in since as long as I've known you, almost 3 years or something. How I put up with listing to you and your LS1 i dunno. But continue I know you'll get in sooner or later.

Hey and if you really wanna get in I'll send in pics of my car and when they come to interview me to put my car on the cover let me know I will tell you the time and place and you can drop in. hehe. Ya know I got a high tech machine now. Hey Mike thanks for the complements, I would send pics of your car as well, Give those NJ guys a taist of what we got up here in MASS!!!! Maybe if they see enough sweet rides they will consider a travle shoot!
Also Jim, I was wondering if I had to race at e-town to get in or could I bring you vidio and time slips? I will deliver them with my car and if it all fits you could take a couple pics while I was their? The reason I dont want to race at e-town is becuase race cars break and I dont want to break 5 hours away!!! I will try tho!

Hey Brad im sure if you can get notice of where they are ganna be we can come up with a trailer. If not the one you used to bring your car to IL, I know for a fact I can get you the one I told you about anytime as soon as they take it out of the company name. If not you know my old man knows people I'll have him make a few calls and at the very least get you a nice rental for a good price. Might even be able to borrow a winch from someone if need be. I just want a seat in the Avalanche when you go for my services!!!!!!!!!! GMHTP here we come.
