Most kids our age would just be gettting out of college with a large debt, unless there parents foot the bill.

I pay cash for everything, I have no credit card bills to hold me back!! By the way, For graduation my MOM and Dad paid the $2,200.00 sales tax on my car for me, so I guess they do own some of it(but I didnt ask for it, It was for bustin *** in high school)! Ive been working at our famly store since I can remember, even before it was our families. Its a long story, but it was mostly my dad working for a guy with a guy, guy sold the store to the guy my dad worked with, guy blows brains out (!) because of too many perscription drugs and boat/car/vacation payments, dad buys store from headless mans wife, and here we are. Its an appliance store / radioshack by the way. (Linkage!)
Anyhow, when I turned 15 and a half I nabbed my permit and went car shopping, I had about 3000 in the bank, and for my 16th, I was getting 1K towards a car from my parents (this would be their only help with the whole car thing mind you). I found a 1987 Camaro Z28, beautiful, sparkely midgnight blue with the black washboard-thingys on the hood, and a sweet 305. Fully restored to OEM, awesome. I took the 1000 from my parents, and 1500 of my own, and got a loan for the rest. My blue 3rdgen... Ahhh memories, the passenger seat squeaks now...
Anyhow, about half a year ago, I decided that I wanted something a little more reliable. (read: faster). Having my blue 87 paid off, and in my name, I decided to set it up for sale, and start looking for a new one. I origionally wanted a 1997 30th anniv. convertable, found one, two actually. Sweet embrordered seats, 30th orange stripes on a white car with all snow white leather.
Problem was, I wasnt going to get anything till I sold my old one... But theres the other problem, I didnt want too. I love that car, it still runs, and sounds damn good, but being one of the only 1987s to come from the factory with a carb, cold starts, bad fuel economy, and overall maintenance costs keep me from driving it all over the place.
So one day I decided that, damn it, I worked for every penny I have, and Im not going to go to work with barely any heat anymore! (crappy heater, lol). So, I found my current dream; my 1998 Z28 arctic white LS1. Paid 3000 cash, and got a loan for the rest on a 3 year note, not because I couldnt have paid cash for a 10500 car (at 17 1/2 no less), but because full-coverage insurance came with the loan! I just have to pay for liability, and that beats 2500 every _6_ months for full from a regular place.
So now here I am. At 18, I own 2 Z28s (the white one being extensivly modded, and includes 2400w worth of stereo ), several thousand dollars worth of computer equiptment (no to mention the countless video games for my xbox, ps2, dreamcast, psx, and snes), a mini-arcade compete with a full-blown arcade cabinet (running MAME with over 3500 real arcade games on it ), and a dance dance revolution homebrewn station, and of course, my girlfriend of a year and a half. I work very hard at my job, and do extra work if need be (mainly computer consulting/repair and web design) to be able to afford everything that I have, and I proudly display it for everyone to see.
I believe that if you work for what you have, you will always be ahead of someone that has it handed to them. As I told a group of hotrodding delinquents back when I got my blue Z:
"Even if you beat me in _MY_ Camaro with that Corvette your daddy bought you, I will still win the race."
Am I cocky? Yup. Am I spoiled? No.
P.S. Holy crap, I just previewed this post and its a friggin book!

Modding the car and paying bills sux. I wish I would go back home. THen it would be on. I damn sure would have that 422.
And living on your own sux!! MAN BILLS AND RENT SUX. You will never know how much you spend on food till your parents stop buying it.
