Question on H/C affect on spool
Question on H/C affect on spool Heres my question.
Say for example I have an engine that builds boost around 3k, full boost around 4K. Now If I were to swap to a higher flowing head and a more agressive cam that moves the power band up will the engine now spool slower? If the heads and cam were the only thing to change?
Or what would spool a pte-88 faster?
A: Stock cubes, heads and cam set up 8.5:1
B Stock cubes, ported heads and a "big cam" 8.5:1

I'm gonna guess that it wil spool better/sooner due to more exhaust flowing. At least no worse,

if the cam is large enough to pull low end power for top end, then i would say it would hurt your spool time, but keep in mind that i'm talking about very large cams, usually smaller cams work best on FI cars.

from what i picked up from the 2.ltr turbo guys over here, yuo are better to have no overlap and high lift! comp will help but if you go too high then you are going to need to pull timing or even knock the boost down a bit! but it will spool up quicker!
another way would be to increase dissplacement. more cubes more exhaust gas1
or you could go for an anti-lag system. these things are amazing! the WRC cars over here manage to make possitive boost sat at idle!!! but it does cook turbos!
the best way would be to stick a roots or screew type blower on there! then you have the low end power of the S/C with the top end power of the turbo! hehe.

I do have the ability for an anti lag system.
So a better flowing head will help spool and cam built for boost will also help spool.

from what i understand, more timing (ie an ealier spark) will spool the turbo quicker! this is beacuse the engine will make more N/A power! this power is then tranferd to the exhaust gasses and drives the turbo up to speed ealier! but then when boost comes in you want to knock timing back a little to stop dept!!
also concider the turbo you are using! dont always think bigger is bettter!
