That gets my vote for best blown up engine. Never seen a block just separate in half like that before!

I've been around tractor pulling for a long time and saw a John Deere do the same thing this year. This can happen when you take a block designed to make 160hp and make 2000+hp on some. If that block is the stock block then it was made in the 70's so you can imagine how much it has been run. Cubic inches can be in the 400-600 range in most cases.

According to what class you run, boost levels can reach the 270psi range using 4 turbo's to compund the boost on diesels. Alcohol tractors run a lot less boost, 70psi range. It's a fabrication nightmare running the tubing on a 3 or 4 charger system.

The guys running diesels fuel we are stacking 175-200+psi depending on the class. Its all compound to make that kind of boost. The alky tractors run about half the amount of boost. As for the engines, well they are filled, blocks drilled for huge studs, and we run external girdles to clamp the head down to the block...and sometimes that doesn't even hold. Here are some videos from stock trucks class to outlaw class. BTW, cummins turbo diesels rule....lol.

right click and save as...outlaw truck

stock truck class....right click and save as

Well unfortunately you can't run a BOV on a diesel since you have no vacuum , unless its electronically controlled.

I wonder what kind of torque that sucker was making

You have to making some SERIOUS power to rip a diesel apart like that. Very impressive, though.

ITs done by stuffing more boost in and watching the EGT's. EGT's are what kills a diesel. On the big compound diesels, EGT's can reach 2400 DegF.
