Low boost in lower gears

Default Low boost in lower gears

Wondering why on my gauge I see low boost (3-4psi) in 1st and 2nd, and about 5 in 3rd, and goes up to 6-7psi in 4th and 5th. Not sure exactly what the deal is why it's not boosting up 7psi in the lower gears, is it from lack of load? I have 4.10's in my unit, and seem to go through the gears pretty quick. Just wondering what you guys think!

1. Definetly put lower gears...3.55 or less (LOAD)
2. Source the wastegate actuator line to the front of the car (this will allow the gate to stay closed longer because the pressure is higher at the turbo earlier than at the plenum.)
3. Put a ball check and adjust it to open at 7psi to force gate to stay closed until full boost
4. If it is spinning...load is diminished...and spool will suffer (sticky tires)

I would assume that this would be the cause because it's not giving it time to spool the turbo up...

Turbocuda -

1. I will go with a 28" tire to simulate taller gears and to load the motor down more

2. The wastegate actuator line is right before the MAF up maybe 6" from the TB and I am using a manual boost controller

3. Not exactly sure what you mean by installing a ball check... ???

4. I'm not spinning because I'm not hammering it and am running 30psi on 255/50/16 M/T ET Street radials which hook awesome.

Thanks for the quick responses friends! Guess I'll have to try those taller tires and see if my problem is resolved!

im thinkin thats tire pressure....says 7 psi in his sig for boost.

LOL yeah, tire pressure on the street. I believe last time I was at the track running 1.70 60's was with 23# in the tires. Stock suspension, believe they are even original shocks, they're pretty worn out.

I don't need anywhere close to WOT to get full boost . . . half throttle is plenty

No, I mean I'm not revving it up and dumping the clutch. If I'm rolling and get into it, it'll stick and go, but not go to full boost. Wondering why it's bleeding so much off. I'll try with a bigger tire and see how it works out, I'm sure that's all it is... I don't really want to give up my 60' time though! =(

Hard to find a taller drag radial that works as well as the ET Street radial for a street/strip vehicle. I would have to go with some sort of 15" wheel to get a 28" tire it looks like or run a standard ET Street, non radial with a tube, which I would RATHER not do. I haven't adjusted the BOV at all, it is in out-of-the-box form, could that have anything to do with the lack of building boost going through the gears? I only have a few thousand miles on my 4.10's, but can't afford a 9" yet. =\ What would you all do?

you're still running the hotcam? that may be the reason you're bleeding off some boost. also, those rear mount kits are known to have leaks, you may want to pressure test it.
