Default Vortech YSi Help?

Currently I have the mods in my signature but I am thinking of going with the stock Vortech kit but with a custom bracket and YSI head unit by RMCR.

What CFM and HP is the aftercooler rated?
Any real world testing?

Will the aftercooler be a restriction?

Could I pulley down the YSI to approx. 9 psi on my current setup?
If so what size pulley?

RWHP?

From what RMCR says the after cooler still drops the air temps by 80* or more. and you will be able to get much more than 9 psi out of the YSI although I don't know if you could make it put out that little you would have to call Vortech on that. Maybe RMCR will know. They do offer a T-trim though if it wouldn't put out the PSI you are wanting.

Not sure when the aftercooler maxes out.

I'd probably do a 3.33 Vortech blower pulley and see if that does around 9-11psi. Next step smaller is 3.12 but I think it will makes like 13-15psi with the YSi, just my guesstimate. With my YSi I made 21.5 psi with the stock crank Vortech crank pulley and a 2.85 blower pulley. In the middle of the summer I made 18psi.

According to Vortech, they're only good for 580 hp, but LJ and I have both blown right through that.

LJ has run 9.9 at 140 mph with an S trim and Vortech Aftercooler, no nitrous, full weight.

I've made 680 rwhp through a TH350 and loose converter with a Vortech Aftercooler. No knock to LJ, but I'm pretty sure I'm making more power than he did though it.

What kind of IAT's are you getting?

Have you measured psi loss before and after the aftercooler?

I am more interested in rwhp and twtq numbers than I am track times. Track times all depend on many different factors, how the car is setup and the driver etc...

I've heard the aftercooler is rated at 1000 cfm. The neck is 2 1/2 inlet (The outlet on the YSi is either 2 3/4 or 3"). On an 85 degree day at the track I would see IAT's hit 170 (this was icing down the water first-12#). I now see 120-130 with a 3" OBX. I would go with another intercooler. Even though you can still make decent power with the aftercooler I believe you would be better off with a properly matched intercooler to the YSi.

why would you pulley down a YSi to run only 9 lbs. That makes no sense. A big blower like that is for 15-20 lbs of boost. Your on a stock bottom end it seems, the blower pushes a lot of air, you wouldn't last very long with that supercharger.

besides your ati unit i'm sure has plenty left in it. build your bottom end and up the boost and keep what you got.

According to the PCM/stock IAT, I was getting around 115 deg F at 14 psi when ambient was 50 deg.

Pressure drop through the intercooler was around 2 psi.

I would not run the YSi with the base kit aftercooler, you need something bigger. Using that one guy's example, 170F IAT temps would be bad. Some folks have said that 150F and higher IAT temps are problematic. I've never seen a formal review of IAT temps but it would be interesting to discuss.

I think a YSi could make 600-700rwhp on 93 pump gas, 600rwhp for sure. YSi has made 23-28psi in boosted Ford applications.

I would only pulley the YSI down temp. until I get a built motor.

I orginally fitted my YSi to a stock 2001 LS1 motor with 1 3/4 Pacesetter LT's, 2 x 2.5" true duals as you guys call em.

I have a decent sized intercooler.

I have an 8.25" crank, and was using a 4" blower pulley at that time, and was making about 10psi at 6000rpm.
