Default Fox LS1, Single or Twin Turbo Setup?

I am starting a build of a Fox body mustang with a ls1 swap. I am still deciding on tranny. Most likely a built 4L60E. But I havnt really decide yet. I have another daily driver and this car will come out on some weekends and see alot of track days. I am going to build a truck manifold turbo kit. I have all the room in the world in the fox to build any setup I desire. I am deciding between big single or smallish twins. I know for supra's they run big singles cause they only have 1 bank of cylinders. I also see alot of people do a front mount single on LS1's and run crossover pipes to basically infront of the balancer and mount it there. I know two smaller turbos mounted right off the exhaust manfiold would spool quicker and be braced better. But I am no turbo expert, will they have less top end. If this car was going to be a daily driver I would do twins all day but it isnt. Should I spend the extra fab time and money for twins or is a big single the way to go. Thanks

I am planning on around 800hp max in the future. But I will stick to 7psi till I have a built 408. These are my turbo choices let me know which route you think.

Twin's:
GT30R's
or
GT-32's
or
SC-3227E's

Big Single
GT40
PT-70 or 80

Thanks

The more I think about it I am leaning towards a big single. Also sense I want less than 850hp then I dont really need a 408. I could run the stock 346 for awhile and then do a 370 and make the 800whp. So sense I wont do a 408 I shouldn't need a T6 flange turbo. Would a gt42 be to much could I get by with a PT-76 so the lag wont be as bad till I get the 370. Thanks

I basically am just answering all of my questions. I did more research and found 402 with mild cam stock 225 afr and a truck maifold pt-88 setup making more than my goal of 800whp on pump and no meth. They all just told him to go with the pt-88 and I agree and also the lag with help with traction in low rpms. I think I will go with a 4l60E pure evil stage 3 from Speed INC., PT-88, precison 850hp air/air intercooler, tail 50mm bov, and wastegate. Then for the 408 225 afr's, eagle 4" stroke crank Lunati rods and diamond pistons. That will meet all my goals and in the future if I want more power I can throw in race gas and go for 4 digits.

if your shooting for over 1000rwhp youll need a PT88, GT42-76 or similar.
if you do go with a 370 or bigger id try and get a T6 flanged turbo.
Id also go with Th400 if you dont want your tranny breaking

oh and btw big singles rule.

You dont think a built 4L60E will stand up to the power output. I am looking at a fox body rolling chassis today. If it goes well I will buy a LS1 this week and I need to decide if I want to buy one with a 4L60E so I will have a core for a later upgrade. Or should I just get the engine and buy a Turbo 400. Also I dont want anything over 800whp. The car should weight in around 2,600lbs and it will be crazy with 700whp. Do you think I should just get a 6.0L iron block and build it stock stroke or stroke it. I would like to put the engine in now with a mild cam. Then fab up the turbo kit and run it for awhile on 7psi. Then when I get more funds do a build iron block and stroke it to 408 and then run a smaller turbo and make 800whp. But if I do a 408 I need a t6 flange turbo so will that even be doable when the car is a 346ci for awhile. Thanks

id just do a Th400 or maybe a powerglide if a track car, its just going to be stronger, if you do get up to 800rwhp your 460LE is going to break sometime.
if you eventally want an iron block go ahead and get it now, not wasting time on an aluminum block then.

I agree on the tranny setup. I will just go with a TH400. Do you have any reccomendations of where to buy from. Also I did fine a 850hp stable 4L60E from LS1Speed for $2600. As for the iron block I was just planning on buying a LS1 from eBay. Throwing that in with cam. Making the turbo kit and testing it at 7psi. Then later when I have more funds. Put a 9" in, and buy LQ4 heads and lQ4 block and either just built it up. Or do a stroker of some sort. Is there a better way to do it.

If you want 800rwhp you dont even need a stroked setup.

Plenty of people running 347's with a 76mm turbo pushing that kinda power.

Plus, if its a track car, just get a big stall and a 2 step and you'll feel every bit of power you need.

Ya, I am leaning towards a GT-42 or PT-76 Turbo and a built TH400. Once I am ready to up the boost I will just do a forged 346 or maybe a 370 stroker iron block with lq4 heads. The GT42/PT-76 will work if I do a 346 or 370 and it should be laggy but not to bad when I am just running low boost on the stock block. Thanks for the help everyone.
