Question
For your 7.0 engine, I would order the D-1SC kit and upgrade it when ordering it to an F1 blower. Give me a call at 260 244-4808 and I can give you a great price quote. Bob
High compression is not boost friendly. If you have "small" heads, a switch to 6.0 truck heads or similiar to drop the compression to the 9 to 1 range would be advised. Just my $0.02
As for SC vs turbo.....guess it really depends what you want out of the car. Both have their pros and cons. Period. With the ATI you have possible belt slippage, loss of one cooling fan, and external oil as a "con", depending on how you look at it. The plus is a reliable and long established manufacturer, great fitment, no loss in ground clearance, and super HP gains from idle through the redline. Vortech is the other route, save drilling into the oil pan (a pro for some and a con for others) as well as the aftercooler sitting darn near on top of the engine and getting in the way of most things. Again, great reliability and HP gains from a well established company.
Turbos have their own pros and cons. Awsome power once the boost kicks in and "normal" drivability around town. Boost can be increased by turning a ****, not by changing a pulley and belt. Power increase is downright silly above about 3500RPM. Turbo cars will literally suck you through the seat at high RPM's. Front mount turbos are expensive, create lots of underhood heat, and are damn near shoehorned into the engine with little clearance for anything else. Front mount turbo manufacturers also seem to come and go at an alarmingly fast rate. Save for SpeedInc, I'm not sure many companies have been around for more than a couple years. Rear mount turbos have the same pros as front mounts, but hang low making speedbumps a new enemy. Also, water puddles now cause concern with the filter under the car. Also, a turbo diesn't make the awsome HP numbers at low RPM, where most everyday driving is done. Many turbines don't begin making positie pressure till after 3K RPM's This is either a pro or con depending on what you expect from your car. (Pro in less stress on the engine and nice fuel economy. Con is not having that instant gratification and low RPM whine that a SC can deliver.)
So, guess it depends what you want. For me, the rear mount turbo was the best choice. For others, the ATI is. Some people swear by the N2O. It's complicated......like giving an opinion on which cat-back exhaust is best. Some will swear your choice is genius, others will call you an idiot. It all comes back to opinion and what you want from your car.
Hope this helps.
