Default sts kit-electrical question

Hey all, I just swapped out my oil scavenger pump to a higher volume pump. I started the car, pump was running fine....then the resistor that is hooked up to the secondary relay jusy popped. Can anyone help me figure out what this thing does, and how do fix it??

I've never seen any posts about this, but I'm hoping someone might know! Thanks.

That resister is used to run the pump at slower speed when not in boost. You can just jumper past it so the pump runs at full speed all the time. Call STS and have them send you a new one.

Sweet!! I was kind of hoping that's what it was for. Is it a sign of something wrong that it popped like that? One side of the resistor just popped, the wire come off, and there was an exposed coil.

Why are you changing the pump? I realize that you put in a larger turbo [and would like to read more about that if you can direct me to a thread] but what does that have to do w/ scavaenging? I assume that the oil feed is unchanged, so ???

The pump came from STS. From what I understand, when you start running higher levels of boost, you need a higher volume pump. I was trying to get away with using the standard one, but at 9 psi, I would start to hear the alarm come on. So, this pump is supposed to be able to keep up with the g forces.

I'm having the same problem with the base pump that comes with the kit.

I ended up just removing the resistor, and connecting both sides with a plain old connector. From my understanding, now the pump will just run at high speed now.

quicksilverado, you may want to contact STS about getting the higher volume pump. That should fix the problem.

I've had that happen on a couple kits I have done. The high volume pump puts such a draw on that resistor that it will pop it sometimes. You can get one from STS or at an electronic store.
