Default Trick to Sealing V-Band clamps?

well in addition to an oil leak..i just started my Turbo setup for the first time...i have a few exhaust leaks...two of them being v band clamps.

Aside from making sure theyre flush before tightening, does anyone have any tips to help these seal? Are they somehwhat problematic?

Im getting popping from air being mixed into the exhaust.

I had a slight leak that was caused by simply not tightening enough. No one else seems to have any problems with them.

It is standard practice on aircraft to spray some lube on the flanges and internal portion of the clamp prior to installtion. It also helps to tap on outside of the clamp while tighting to specs..

The tapping on the outside of the clamp when its tight...then retightening..tap more...tighten more...works well.

But most of all...they have to be aligned right. You may think they are aligned good...but if they are leaking chances are they are still off a bit.

I read when using v band clamps its best to have the one pipe protude 1/8 past and the one 1/8" shy so they lock together...

also when done this way you need not worry about alinement

here is a pic

sweet, do you have pics.

some have taken high temp rtv sealer between the flanges.

would bad sealing vband clamps cause backfires then?
mine has been backfiring like crazy, but i thought it was something in the tune. im gonna have to check and see if their sealed now.

well my tune is off...the car has 96 lb injectors in it..i set the injector flow rate tables correctly and lowered the minimum pulsewidth....and at cold start i think theres too much fuel being tossed in...that and with the leaking v bands its probably adding air at just the right places....theres def flames shooting out of the v band connections when it back fires.

Im going to cut some of the fuel enrichment at cold start and see if it helps, but these exhaust leaks def need to be fixed.
