Default Methanol More Boost???

I am currently shopping for a methanol kit for my 02 TA. My car is currently boosting 9 psi, could I run more boost with a meth a kit and a new tune or am I playing with fire? Internal Engine is all stock. Blower is D1sc with tune by Fastchip. Other bolt ons such as headers, y-pipe, cat back, Racetronix and in line fuel pumps, 42# Injectors. Also what is the best meth kit for my application?

Why don't you try more timing first and see how the car responds before you add more boost. My car picked up 40-50rwhp by adding 5 degrees of timing at the same boost level.

I don't have a tuner close by. The nearest one is 7 hours away, so I have to send my computer to Ed Wright at Fastchip and have him program it from a custom spec sheet with all information about upgrades. But I'm sure he would add timing because when I had it programmed the first time he programmed it for 10 pounds and 91 octane.

Those are scary tunes! I would make a day of driving and getting the car tuned.

U DEFINATLY should get it tuned by someone that can dyno it and change **** as it goes before u go any higher. And once u get it scuared away id do like LSs1 said and add timing. I can make it spool faster and feel alot better all over with timing where as boost just adds to the power once u get full boost. I got mine from Julio at something something place thingy. FYI i dont remember thename. Usually deals with Turbo Regals. GL man

Would I be ok not to add boost and just add the methanol and send the computer to Fastchip to have some timing added? Any reports on cooling mist?

Any mail order tune of a FI car is a joke , a guess at best and should not be done. Your just asking to blow up your motor that way. Buy HP tuners and a wide band and do your own tuning or drive to a tuner near you.

mail order tune on a boosted motor? might as well play russian roulette, except instead of 1 loaded chamber and 5 empty ones, 5 loaded and 1 empty one. All the money you spent on the go fast parts, go make a long drive and get 'er done right.

Make the drive. Put it on the calendar and make it a weekend event (drive to the shop, tuning, drive back home). If not you will pay anyways.

are you allready running an intercooler? If not, then meth would be a good idea. If youve allready got an intercooler, i would not get the meth injection. Most of the power gains ls1's and lt1's see due to meth injection is due to the advancement of timing. The meth allows you to run more degrees of timing, but you allways have an outside chance of pump failure or running out of fluid. This would be bad for your engine lol. If you get it, dont waste your time on a mail order tune b/c you need to see the timing tables and make calculated adjustments. If you dont have an IC, get one.

How hard is it to do the hp tuners? I have never done anything like that. Also am I going to pick up any power with the meth injection because I have dual intercoolers but running a higher octane with the meth the tuner should be able to add some timing

this is a preference choice, but meth should be used as insurance...not as a way to run to the ragged edge...because if that meth system fails, you will detonate.

Make the drive, get the dyno tune.. Mail-order tunes are terrible, Ed Wright is even worse.

If the water pump for the intercooler in your magnuson blower fails, your motor would likely start detonating as well. What's the difference? Your fuel pump can fail and you can run lean and detonate as well, so would you like to ditch fuel pumps all together and maybe just hire an illegal to siphon gas out of your tank and spit it through the throttle body to provide fueling for the motor? I've been running alky injection kits for years, before people even thought about spraying methanol and when all people did was denatured alcohol cut with water, and I have never had an alcohol pump fail on me.

Well you are a lucky guy.... A good percentage of the FI cars in RPM with meth have had one headache or another with their pumps... it may have been seals, but they still caused operational problems.

I'd get a scanmaster or a knock gauge in this situation... See 2-3 degrees? Let off.
