Default STS Setup Questions

Hello all,

I'm new to this and am sure this question has been covered half a million times but I have read and read and just want to make sure what I'm reading will be ok for my car. I have a 98 TA Vert. I am planning on putting in an STS system along with an intercooler. The previous owner of the STS system was running 8 PSI so I plan on doing the same...

My question is this. I currently have headers and a basic tune from Speedinc. Other than that I am stock. Am I reading correctly that all I really need to get up and running is 42# injectors and the plug and play racetronix fuel pump? I know I will need a tune once the STS is installed but can I install the injectors and fuel pump before doing the turbo and tune. I would like to install the injectors and pump, then maybe a week or two later I will probably get to the turbo installed. Then have it tuned after that. Can I run the car without a tune, just to get it home from where I am installing the turbo? My buddy has a rack and I plan on installing it there.

Also, it is an Auto...should I consider a converter while I have access to a rack? I don't race this thing at all but obivously I'd like it to be quick. If it makes that big a difference mayeb this is the time to do it.

yes you will be fine with the injectors and fuel pump and you can boost around 8psi or so safely with a good tune. You can drive the car home just dont boost, I also drove my car without a tune 60 miles home and it made it just fine, but there have been people who have blown there motors leaving the install so beware!!. As far as torque converter might as well you will save labor and time.

Default Don't boost

You say don't boost....how do you not boost? Doesn't it just happen as you accelerate?

You shouldn't put the injectors in before the car is tuned for them. Otherwise you will flood the engine with fuel and wash the pistons.

Indeed, injectors w/o a tune is a bad idea - just wait to put them on the rail till after your tuned.

install the fuel pump , install the STS , drive the car to the tune shop install larger injectors, get tuned. you wont boost if you dont accelerate hard, have a boost gauge and watch it - dont get the needle out of vaccum.

I did the same thing you are doing. A little word of advice I would go ahead and get the 60lbs instead of the 42s. My 42s where almost maxing out at #8 so I went to the mototron 60s.

If you are going to spend the money get the bigger ones it gives you more room to grow and you wont have to worry about it.

true the car wont run on #42 injectors without some sort of tune to start it off. I actually installed my injectors after I drove it home.
