You could make a car with a rear turbo fast, But wont it take more work? I just don't like the idea of having a turbo mounted under the car at the rear.

I wasn't implying that a rear mount setup can match or outperform a front mount setup, I think thats obvious. My point was that the STS and STS style systems have been proven to work, and were nothing to "laugh at".

Like someone said, its all in your goals and budget. I have a blower, so what do I know?

Yeah but the title of this thread is "what will make more power" the answer is one can make more than the other depending how much $ you throw at it. But people who are willing to spend the cash for a turbo go with front mounts.

Well, yes, I suppose a rear-mount T88 on a 408 will make more power than a front mount T49 on a 231. But, with the same turbo, cid, heads, and cam, a front mount will make more power.

Well, you're right engineermike, but it never hurts to point out things that weren't said in other replies. The whole emissions thing was enough to sway me and i am sure others.

The bottom line is both front and rear setups have the ability to make more power than you can use.

I agree Front mounts will out perform most rear mounts but their are a few rear mounts out there that can take a front mounted turbo. I also look at the price of the kit. 5 or 6k and you got an awesome setup with the STS which you pay a grand or two more for a good front setup. So too break it down some...if you are looking for a street driven car and low maintance and performs at the track well then STS is the way to go. But for a drag race car I would suggest spend the extra money and get a front mount. Myself I enjoy the STS kit and like longrange4u having his goal of making a 900+ 9 second STS car I am trying the STS kit on a v6 and see what I can do with it...

Why do you say that? Guys "use" 2,000+hp on 10.5W's. Drag radial cars
make well over 1,000hp.

I wasnt there are kits out there that are cheap and perform well but then you look at heat in the engine bay.. There are pros and cons about both systems

I would say the front mount makes for a much better street car. By the time the power hits from the STS on the street your already having to shut down.

900hp front mount vs 900hp STS. The biggest difference would be the lag time, and the area under the curve.

Big horse power STS=supra boost curve.

has anyone with a STS kit really experience Lag on their turbo?

Most people do not have this with the STS kit which case they spool under 3grand.... from what I seen

You may want to do a little research on a Roots blower... then you will get the joke.

Good one!

He's referencing a post in another forum where a guy saw a centrifugal
blower mounted UNDER the motor. He probably wondered why the blower
had all that copper in it.
