Default I hate my FMIC setup

I hate it. It sits far back and is blocked my a bunch of garbage. I didn't notice how bad it was until I cut the front license plate holder out. It still has a good bit of the foam in the nose. Are most of you guys taking all the foam out? What do I have to do put it closer up in the nose? damn it.

I was thinking I would take the nose of and trash all the foam. The thing I am most afraid of is that I will have to redo all my IC piping to move up the FMIC. hell I should just get a bigger one while I'm at it. Anyone have pics of there setups?

Lose the foam and the bumper support. They're about worthless for crash protection in these cars anyway. The nose doesn't distort too bad w/o the foam.

Exactly,

Lose ALL THE FOAM/ BUMPER SUPPORT... I actually shed about 20lbs just doing all that with the FMIC installed. When or if you take all the foam out, have whoever's doing the work weld a "mini roll cage" and brace the front of the nose. Lookin good tho.

Exactly. I did that on mine using strips of 1/8" aluminum.

No deflection here.

I ripped that foam out so fast

I mounted my 3" intercooler about 2 inches in front of the bumper support, I know T/As are a little tougher space-wise.

So that black metal my fmic is mounted to is the bumper support? What will I bolt the fmic to when I take that out? Also, will I have to get some more pipe to put the intercooler further up?

Mine is mounted to the end of the frame rails. I believe that's what the bumper support attaches to. You can use longer bolts and spacers to move it forward.

Nice. i can't wait until Sunday when I have some time to mess with this thing. I'm going to take the nose off. How hard is taking the nose off? And evaluate the situation. Could I just use longer couplings or more IC pipe to move it up further?

Nose takes 20min to take off; very easy.

Depends on how far you move it up. If it's mounted to your crash support, you'll probably have to make some spacers out of small diameter tubing to space it off the frame butts. You'd probably be better off to figure out how much further the intercooler will sit, then weld in that length to a straight section of IC piping. If you're only moving it an inch or two, then you can make that difference up in the couplers.

What kind of intercooler is it and what are the dimensions. The old ATI 3-core I had and the Spearco I have now only needed minor work to attach to one of the existing 3 holes on the end of the frame. I think my Spearco is either 28" or 31" wide.
