Can I just run a breather and say "screw the pcv altogether?"

Screw emissions, screw pcv, screw catch cans, and screw....

Yes.. Sometimes they puke oil on the headers for some. Not usually though. Some people do both also. I just chose my own way.

dude, they've had them since the 60s. they learned the hard way that if you want your oil to last any reasonable amount of time, you need a way to positively force clean air into the crankcase.

Uhhh..... who cares about oil life?

I'll add some oil, much less than the intake will suck up from the pcv.

I change my oil every 3k miles anyway....

What's the point with pcv's?

Just like it says.. Positive Crankcase Ventilation. When the gases slip by the rings, its corrosive to the internals if its not vented out somehow. Also, if you close off the system, it will build pressure in the crankcase then forcing oil and gasses out of the other seals. It also wont let the rings seal right.

^^^ yeah those gasses are vented out of the breather....

Hell the pcv draws the air from the valve cover anyway, how is that different from breather that I can see venting?

They arent just going to find a way out on their own. In order for them to go out the breather theyll have to be pushed out therefor theres positive pressure in the case. With a PCV system, its being sucked out before it builds pressure. Now with FI, youll have a lot of positive pressure if yuo just vent the case instead of pulling a vacuum to help pull the gasses out.

Do you think I'll blow the rear main seal out with 7 psi and no pcv- just a breather?

Maybe I'll run an electric vac pump plumbed into the valley cover or maybe the back of the valve cover.... I hate clutter so I don't want anything hooked up the intake (visually seen) except a fitting for reading boost if I can avoid it.

I wouldnt run a pump. I would, however, plumb it to the inlet side of the turbo (or blower). You could just keep the breather and see how it works. You wont blow any seals as long as theres a vent somewhere in the system. I know some have thought about sealing it up completely... bad idea!

ever see thoes large buckets of paint or chemicals with the one small round pouring hole in it..

yea, its vented, so im sure all the paint fumes get out, and theres fresh air in that bucket.

(that wasnt ment to be just a smartass. if you think about that statement, you might see my point.)

what im talking about is hooking up a vacuum cleaner to that one vent, and opening a second vent to the atmoshphere... then fresh air is constantly pulled in.

the operation of PCV is critical to a street engine. if you doubt it, think and ask yourself what does it do, and why would every automobile engine since the 60s have it?

Plumbing it to the inlet side of the turbo... I thought of that in a passing thought a couple days ago while looking at the way Incon says to fix up the pcv...

I'll just run a fitting from the back of the driver's side cover to the inlet and keep the passenger side breather in place.
