Default Which engine block to use for Procharged buildup??

So i have two options here guys...at least these are the two options that are readily available to me right now. I have two engine blocks in my possesion. First I have an iron 5.3L LS1 block, and second, I have a 5.7L aluminum LS1 block. Which one do you think would be better overall for a procharged buildup?

I plan on pushing the 800 RWHP mark, and both blocks are pretty much in the same condition and need a bit of machining anyways.

So what do you guys think?? I know there are other options out there, but right now I just wanted an opinion on these options that I have.

Thanks,
Jim

I would do the LS1 aluminum... There are many guys that are pushing those to numbers close to that very successfully... The added cubes won't hurt and the weight will be better for your ET's...What procharger are you going to use?? You'll be maxing the D1SC out around those numbers...Not saying that you can't get there but if you want to go higher I would suggest the F1 or better...

I was thinking the D1SC, or the F1. The F1 will allow to push further if I want as well.

Keep in mind I am also going to keep this a stock cubic inch engine as well.

If you can get some weight down and get it to hook I think that the D1SC should be just fine...

I voted the 5.7 between your choices.

Interesting..I thought for sure that the iron block would have prevailed here. even though it is a 5.3...I was planning on boring it out to 3.900"

So far you guys are pointing me in the direction of the aluminum block. Anyone got any reasons for this... besides the obvious like weight?

Recently I was advised to punch a 5.3 iron out rather than use my OEM aluminum block on this winter's build for strenght considerations. More input!!

I've heard that either boring a 5.3L block will leave more meat on it than using the 5.7L block...

Ask V8_DSMto_V8again or whatever his name was... I think he brought it up.

An aluminum block will have no problems holding 800 rwhp. It's lighter as well. I'd go with the aluminum block.

30 years ago, everyone would of given anything they had to have the lighter weight aluminum block. Now that they are common, people aren't as worried about weight. The LS1 blocks typically hold up just fine with a good build using forged internals. 800 rwhp is not a problem for the aluminum blocks. 700 rwhp will get you into the nines with a D-1SC. If you really want 800 rwhp, I'd start with the F1. Bob
