silicone elbow blew with only 10lb.

Default silicone elbow blew with only 10lb.
well has anyone blew apart there silicone elbows on there turbo cars..well i did and oly on 8-10lbs it was a obx, it ripped about an 8 inch tear on it just pulling out onto the street. and i wasnt even beating on it that day..the day before i did a lil bit tho...either obx is cheap or i just got a bad one

Is there any movement in the charge pipe where the coupler is? That's really the only thing I can figure. Where did it shred it? I know my buddy's Z blew his off because his BOV was too small. Would like more information. I would be willing to say it either had movement or you had a defective OBX coupler, they aren't complete junk, and wouldn't come apart that that low of boost.

no i dont think there is any movment in the charge pipe..it looked like it cut with a knife kinda

I have hump hoses anywhere there is movement. You might want to add some to ensure the elbo is not the component taking any kind of flex.

You made more boost then us before ours blew out. We did a STS on a customers car and his 90deg OBX one that was sent with the FMIC blew apart with 6psi! I would say get a 5ply coupling and call it a day. The obx one, you could tear by hand with little force. OBX has decent intercoolers just there silicon couplings (atleast the ones we got) were junk.

It blew because its a POS. They arent reinforced, just cheap silicone.

Yes indeed, the OBX elbow that came with our STS front mount intercooler kit could be shredded into strips like a piece of newspaper, once it had a hole in it. Bob

well i have just bought a high temp rubber one for now unless it works for a while..and i'll make sure theres not to much movment

you might have to get a spare..before it broke it was slipping off with 10 or more psi,got it to stay and now it blew a hole in it

Thats why I always use straight couplers and never make a bend with one. thats what the hard pipe is for, besides it shouldn't look like a hoover vacume cleaner when its done. (J/K) Of coarse there is some spots were there is only room for a coupler with a bend, then use high quality 4 or 5 ply high temp silicone hose.

Ive been running my 90deg 4-3" elbow OBX for almost a year now, up to 20psi.

It has recently developed a split though, although it hasnt actually broken yet.

True, I have a total of 5 couplers on my setup.
1 - Compressor to charge pipe
2 - Charge to Intercooler
3 - Intercooler to charge
4 - intercooler to MAF
5 - MAF to TB
