Shame on Mr. "You Cant Unless you're me..."
Kids, adults, whoever asking you a question are the people who look up to you. God forgive you if you own a business and are passing around that kind of attitude!
I have less than 2000 in my WHOLE setup. Its not done yet, nope. And for those guys who are waiting to pummel my ego, theres nothing left of it. You took it a long time ago with your d-baggery. So eat ****.
But for those of you who are like "I want that turbo, and the power, but dont have the money" just read my parts list. You can do it yourself. You can use the cheap stuff, just dont lean on it real hard or be surprised when it seizes, doesnt work properly or goes out. Replace it with the best stuff you can afford AS it breaks.
Personally I'd rather put it together, get it working, drive it until it breaks and upgrade whatever broke each time rather than Refi my house (which is probably what Mr. Megabucks did) to finance his monster.
To Mr. Cool Megabucks: Awesome job. Keep it up. I look up to you.
To Mr. D-bag Megabucks: E.S.a.D. (figure it out)
To Mr. I'm trying to get mine built: me too, we'll figure it out together
To Mr. "I want, how do I...?" Keep working and figuring it out!
Oh, so far heres my total estimated investment for a DIY truck manifold turbo kit.

LQ4 exh manifold stainless flanges x 2 @ 11 ea ---- $ 22 (H.H. Slayton Machine shop)
on3performance chinese 70mm or 76mm turbo ----- $289 or 349 (on3performance)
2 x 2.5" stainless mandrel bends (U) @ 21 ea ------ $60 (after shipping)
1 x 4" stainless mandrel bend --------------------- $36 (after shipping)
1 x 3' of 4" OD section straight stainless exhaust -- $14 (exhaust shop)
t4 flange ---------------------------------------- $19 (after shipping)
Wastegate flange -------------------------------- $21 (after shipping)
Wastegate 2" blowdown tube (90)----------------- $12 (after shipping)

60# injectors (usually go for 200-250 a set)--------$250
Tune --------------------------------------------$250 (after shipping)
Price before fuel system was like 1100'ish.... price after is in the 1600 range...
I left out a few small things like gauges, and welding supplies, vacuum tubing, and turbo wrap and thats about it.
No water/meth, no boost controller at first, and a cheap turbo.

Oh and for the record, ID LOVE to buy an $8k turbo kit, but truth be told, I'd rather build my own and learn from the experience (which is what my goal is from a fast car. I do it for the fun of building and playing, not trying to be the fastest man on the planet) than to throw that kinda money out there. I'll have my whole car done (fast junk) for less than that.... almost including the price of the car.
I trade a 3200$ streetbike I fixed up for a Running driving nice 98 SS car.
Stall + stickies + turbo + built trans = 10.40's? We'll see! Hopefully faster, but remember, It has a fat guy drivin it!

I am currently doing a D1-F1 kit with my 2002 WS6
1. D1SC Kit w/FMIC and Injectors & 8 Rib= $6750.00 shipped
2. Racetronix P&P = $200 ws6project.com
3. Wideband 02 Prosport Evo Gauge= $209
4. Boost and Fuel Pressure Gauge= $100
5. Autometer Triple Pillar $60
6. AlkyControl Methanol Kit= $650
7. Built A4 Trans for new powr $1000
8. Dyno Tune $400
--------------------
Update:
New 390 motor $9,000 (longblock)
F1-A Procharger (new) $2600-d1sc sell price.
Full Dual fuel system (340's) $1600
Fast 102mm $850
NW 92mm TB $330
Aster Bracket $660
127lb injectors $885
still have a stg 5 4l80 swap, and suspension, drag wheels, roll cage, to go.
Point is, I am not super rich, or think anyone has to do anything my way, I just bust my *** anywhere from 8-15 hours a day, and sacrifice whatever it takes to make it happen. FI in a reliable form, is in every sense of the phrase, rarely cheap. This is taking me a little over a year. And alot of sitting at home, while everyone else goes and races and I watch, and wait to deliver el' asswhoopin'

i know im not one to have 10k to put into a turbo setup so im going the used parts route and i know stuff will break down the road but i expect that. for people like me buy stuff used and you will be surprised how much money you can save and have a nice 450+ reliable setup for on 7-10 lbs

Wow, It's amazing how times have changed. I just read this thread for the first time and $10K+ for a turbo setup seemed almost comical by today's' standards.
I have a complete LM7 with 44K out of a wrecked truck. Everything is there including the harness, computer and all accessories so I have around $2500-$2600 in parts. Here's the major components.
Keep in mind this is a conversion from an old Carbed A-Body and I'm only looking to make around 600 HP or so. This is a daily driver during the summer so reliability is more important than total HP or TQ,
44K miles LM7 - $450
New BW S375 - $400
Walbor 255lpg fuel pump with filters and lines $300
Holley LS wiring harness $200
Holley HP EFI (have this already for other cars) so $0 but figure $1100 if you have to buy it.
Misc tubing and flanges. $200
Motor mounts $75
60lb injectors used, cleaned and tested $240
Used Tial WG. $120
Ebay BOV $40
Ebay intercooler $120
Th400 to LS spacer $100
Figure $250-$300 for misc other parts that pop up.
Things I'm still considering.
Car intake used - $80-$100
Cam Swap - LS6 or other $250
Head studs and rod bolts. - $300
Possible Holley oil pan and pick up kit if required. $250

Did not read all the posts but I do have a question.....I see amounts of 15k here and there. How much of that was actually spent on the forced induction parts? Safe to assume a good chunk of that (15k) was spent on the actual motor itself?

I probably haven't replied to this thread since 2004-2005 when I did my turbo setup and I was one of the $15k+ , but that was on mostly in FI parts alone and I got most of my stuff at jobber or free. I already had the forged motor and all I changed was the cam and heads (bought used from here). FI is stupid expensive to do right!. but theres a 100 ways to skin a cat.

I agree BOBS99SS! Reading this thread at first was a huge let down after opening the FI thread to scan for my first viewing... my dreams were almost instantly crushed by the OP. I'm your average Joe wanting to put years of savings and hard work into my SS. I'm not one who has the BIG Bucks to drop all at once, especially not $15,000. But after reading UberTrucks post, it brought hope from seeing BOBS99SS post! I will be selling my 01 Z28 for $8,000 to fund my build. Adding some savings it will leave me with roughly $10,000. Now I just need to pick and choose my battles of which parts to budget. Any suggestions on my Turbo build would be greatly appreciated through PMs!!
