whats with this 6K thing?

if you build a motor that can take 14psi then you have a motor that can handle 7K or more......

get a cam the can get the most out of what you have going into the motor.

I have my reasons...this is going to be a street car..so I want it to last this year..its with a 6speed. Until I get an auto and actually learn how to drive the car...im happy with this. the motor will be good for more..but the fuel system wont(yet) when I get the auto,gen7,fuel,blah blah...then ill go all out...but for now im happy with revving till 6200. Ive been happy revving my H/C car to 6400 so this will be good. =)

I see.but would it not be better to have a cam to match you engine not your rpm, and then only shift at 6200?

..that is the cam that was suggested..with the turbo, amount of boost, the size of my engine, the compression ratio..it was all calc'd in when he gave me the idea of the cam.

I have a very similar setup to you and at the last minute I chickened out of going with the 219 219 .550 .550 114.. I have regretted even wasting the money for gaskets when I decided to install my stock LT4 cam so of course I went with the bigger is better this go around and decided ordered and am now installing my new cam, specs are below.. I have no data on it yet but I expect nice improvement over the ole LT4 stocker.

224 224 .565 .565 115lsa its a comp cam, I imagine form other similar motors I will be able to make power solidly to about 62-6300 rpm and shift around 54-6500 rpm.. I wanted to extend my RPM badn being a 6 speed car, it gets to feeling really nice up top while rowing gears and this was my final deciding factor.. I see little drag strip time and just like going out and romping in this car so I know what ya mean with wanting an auto. I am also toying with the idea of slipping an old 700r4 tranny built up out of my 85 project car since its a direct bolt up form vette to vette. think long and hard about it, the 220 seems like a great cam but maybe a little more lift which will just increase power in the same RPM band the duration will afford.

sorry I did not want to up set you, it just looked like you only cared about the rpm. I would want a little more duration and in my mind you always max out your lift that you valve prings can take(with in reason) because its free power.

yeah i was actually wondering about the lift..if i went with say 220/220 .565/.565 114+3 which is the lift of the original cam...i just dont wanna mess with something I know nothing about and start changing numbers..

That cam looks great to be honest for a turbo application. Should build boost and run up to the rpm range you're looking at running.

ok good..then thats the cam I was going to go with. My springs are good to .600 lift. I was thinking about doing .585/.585 but 575 should be enough lift.

I wouldn't recommend that bud... a spring good to .600 is good to .600 (unshimmed) on a naturally aspirated motor. You put 14psi on those babies trying to hold the valves open, and you're gonna see valve float unless you shim those things up and increase the spring pressure. I was going to use 918's until I realized my .581/.581 cam was gettin a little close to that, and if I want to rev to 7k, I better be safe than sorry, got a set of Patriot golds instead, good to .650 and reliable. Worth the $240 shipped for the kit anyway...

nah im keeping my heads as is...well the springs are actually good to more than .600 but they are single springs...*beehives* and they have worked great..but you do make a point. .575 it is.
