Default Turbos and catbacks?

Are they a bad mix? Can a catback cause the hot side to get overly hot due to backpressure? I have a Hooker now, but thinking about switching to something like the Loudmouth again, but I HATED the rasp it had.

Well, I got my exhaust finally finished, put a cutout about 3 ft off the turbo but the rest goes through my Hooker muffer. The car seemed to hit boost a lot easier

the loudmouth I bet won't have the rasp behind a turbo since the turbo muffles the sound and changes the exhaust pulses. Go with a LM and a cutout!

Im still chasing problems and its heat related. Between my vapor lock and boiling the PS fluid, Im going crazy. I figure the Hooker muff will be restrictive on a FI setup.

I have 4" Dynomax bullet. My 88mm turbo definitely took a lot of rasp out of it. Personally (older guy), the exhaust is a little loud for me so I might do a Splitflow like kp.

A cutout will help the turbo spool faster even with a very low restriction catback like the LM. It will also give you the option to change the sound when you want.

Theres no difference between a cutout and a LM, even with a bullet except one exits under the car and the oher out the back.

I heard when u left the Wed. meet and i think its to quiet and sounds bad through ur cat-back. It needs to breath, loudmouth won't sound the same as before, now with the turbo.

I run the hooker too and a cutout... if intrested, here's why:

I LIKE the sound of the hooker catback... but I read of two posts (outside of the myriad that say that the design of the hooker is not good for a turbo) where guys with cutouts and this catback with FM turbos got BIG gains and dropped serious spool time. These 2 users' gains were so high that I pestered them via PM.... I was a skeptic, and still am, but I'm hopeful.

I would think that any type of catback that produces a good amount of back pressure wouldn't be good for a turbo. I think that a LM with a true 3" straight through bullet would produce the least back pressure. If you have a 3" DP and that is sufficient, by the time the exhaust gasses get back to where the catback is they have cooled down some and should flow easier. The hotter the exhaust gas is the more it expands. As it cools some it needs less area to flow properly so a true 3" catback should pose very little if any restriction. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I have designed exhaust systems over the years (NA of course). I too will be using a LM with a true 3" bullet muffler.

Not sure if you're referring to me. . . but I had good luck with the 3" Aerochamber cat-back on my 550 rwhp supercharged combo. However, the 3.5" Aerochamber was really holding back my 700 rwhp turbo combo.

Currently running a dynomax muffler from Summit..single 3" in, dual 2.5" out...made the numbers/times in my sig....don't think it is holding me back any.

No, but now that you mention it, I remeber you having said that as well... Did you get a chance to check it against an open cutout to see what the difference was?
