Wow, that sucks KP.

You've definitely proven what can be done with a "lil" D1 and LS1 combo.

What did you do to the suspension? Difference in 60's between the runs?

I'm thinking you might be able to run 9.5's with meth, so go for it!

It costs ~250 to get your heads oringed vs spending 2500 on the heads..?

Both 60 foots were almost the same 1.27x off the foot brake and 1.26x off the trans brake which is very good for that track. I'm still amazed how well this converter works off the foot brake..

I just changed front springs and shocks and limited the front end travel some, been battling with 275lb/in springs and the car bottoming out down track unless its perfectly smooth. I ended up using the 300lb generation F QA1 springs instead of the regular coil over springs on the strange front shocks and went to double adjustables. Plus made some nice rubber bumpers to limit downward travel as well. I can go 4 wheelin with the thing now lol and it actually helped the car off the line quite a bit as well.

Nice.

Anything left in the weight department? (at least just short of swiss cheesing the car )

I could take a lot of stuff out, I still have power steering, brakes, front and rear bunper supports, most of the stock wiring, never cut any stock brackets off the car, fairly heavy hood, all the interior pieces are in the car etc. I just dont want it to look thef recovery, just because I dont drive on the street doesnt mean it has to look llike a race car With me in the car its 3400lbs give or take (I'm 220 right now) so its at a good weight.

If you could get about 200lbs off you could surely get into the 8's easy without doing ANYTHING else at all...I've taken almost that much off with all of the nit picking stuff in the car... Goodluck bro and I can't wait until I get my ATI Converter cuz I want to hit a 9.999 even with my car... =) You're definitely a pioneer of "cheap" effecient builds doing incredible things...

My car is pretty light for what it is, I could just put a powerglide in it and lose 70 lbs No way I could another 200 out of the car without it looking a little hacked up so i just leave it. Believe it or not I'm not THAT concerned about running 8s with it, a little nicer heads/cam and 20 more cubic inches and the F1A and its there. I just dont feel like pullong the motor right now and was hoping to nurse another season out of it

Congrats KP!!! Hate to hear your probs though. You ran at SDR correct? If you went i-75 to hwy 96, I can save you 20-30 minutes next time I dont think its the heads. I think its the aluminum block moving around but thats just my opinion. When you pull the heads, i know you will get them checked and i am anxious to see what you find. Maybe you go back to composite gaskets...who knows what the fix is.

Awesome KP...!! Do you think your raising the heads?? What head studs are you using? I ended up having to go with the ARP L-19's, GM MLS gaskets and Yamabond, problem solved...going back to composite gaskets won't help IMO. Congrats on knockin' on that 8 sec door!!

I wasnt going to use the composite gaskets, just commenting they lasted the longest out of all of them.. I'm not leaking water outside the engine so any kind of adhesive isnt going to help keep the combustion out of the water. Its a shame no one has done a wire-lock type head gasket for these.

I'll figure out what to do when I get it back in the garage, 22 degrees out there and snow on the ground right now

I wouldnt mind saving 30 minutes going to SDR Jerry, its a long ride.. I had the heads checked when they were off a coupl weks ago and sat right there and watched them do it, it could be the block at this point. I'll put a SBC in here before I do an iron block though
