Default Tool need to cut front end for FMIC

I'm a member at camaroz28 and i wanted to see what you guys have used on your cars for cutting out the black area on the front clip of your bumper. i some of it out with a hand held blade saw type tool. i need something else though. one guy suggested a exacto knife but i think that would be kinda hard?

a pneumatic saw works great to cut a plastic bumper cover open or anything else really

A dremel would work, but not as cleanly and quickly as some sort of reciprocating saw with a fine blade. Go too fast with a dremel and you melt the plastic and have a lot of clean up to do.

Doesn't have to be pneumatic either, electric will work fine, and are far more common. Buy one, or beg/borrow/steal one.

And forget about an exacto knife.

i have never heard of that type of tool, but i rarely have anything to cut though. so its just some type of hand held cutting saw? i have something that looks like a knife hand that has a saw blade on it,but the teeth aren't fine though.

Dremel works great.....as long as you take your time. took 2 1/2 hours. Used a dremel on lower speed with the standard cutoff wheel.

Just buy a saws all they are pretty cheap really. You can also rent them if you don't want to buy. Cuts it fast. That's your Home Depot or Menard's elec version of the above air version.

Believe it or not but I found the razor blade to be the easyiest and most accurate way of cutting my bumper. I tried using the dremel and ended up scratching it in areas I wasn't even cutting

I used a 4" angle grinder with a thin cut off wheel for metal. Was easy to keep it going where I wanted it, cleaned up the tight spots with a Dremel. Took a half hour.

You have to use a fine tooth blade, with a saws all. Also I have used a regular jigsaw also with a fine tooth blade. Just cut from the right side so you don't tear the paint up. On my Trans Am I used a belt sander to clean it up sideways then masked and painted it, since it was like cream colored.

I used a Saw-zaw...i.e. recipricating saw to cut the metal inside the bumper. To cut the plastic, I used a very sharp razor blade and a steady hand.

Custom FMIC

The above is my thread on my custom FMIC. Towards the bottom are all the pics of everything I did.

well i used my buddies die grinder since i was using it to smooth down the areas we cut out of the metal bumper for the intercooler. i got the front clip area is clean as i'm going to with out using a tool from homedepot or dremel. so i'm half way there. razor tool wouldn't cut it at all.
