Damn I am sad to see someone else bought lag in a box. Every STS kit I have seem is way too inefficient. I myself am going with Ohio Boys turbo set-up. Good luck with the install.

Bastards. FI threads are always just full of bastards. Mostly guys with more money than brains and little to no skills.

There are a few exceptions in this thread. Why must the ******** f*** up a thread where people are looking for parts and info with there BS.

no skills, we have a whole DIY'er section at the top of this page, labeled truck manifold turbo FAQ.

Tons of us have skill. And for the profanity and general idiocy you have earned some time off.
Thanks come again,

I have never used these, but thought some would find funny, I mean someone might want to try e-bay bargain...hahahahaha!
On a serious note, what would happen if I put one of those on my 450R?

No guages? No filter? No flanges? No wastegate? All stock fans and accessories don't require re-location/modification? No PCV or breather set-up? No downpipe? No intercooler? ........etc? I could go on.

No kidding, I kept telling myself........... ok this is it, I think I got everything. Well thousands later and still ordering parts. I guess you could be a cheap ***, run crapping parts and leave out some things. I have a unsaid thing though, if you are going to do something, do it right

^ That's the whole point of this thread though. You don't have to spend a small fortune to do everything right.

Everyone with a "budget list" so far in this thread has left out tons on necessary parts. I could easily add 10 things to the list I posted a few posts up.......and this isn't even considering the required fuel system, and drivetrain upgrades.

The point I, and many other "doubters" in this thread are making is that it costs wayyyyyyyyyy more than $2k to make a car boost ready. Even then turbo kit parts alone will exceed $2k.

I know of several people that have gone with a 'budget' build turbo setup. In the long run they have spent more money in fixing things that break, upgrading other things, and so on than what a good quality kit would have cost. The only true way to save on kit is to get dealer prices on the parts and do the labor if you know how. If you want to have a good reliable setup, you need to spend the money

Example 1: My friend and one of our sponsor's old car's. It was a 95 Camaro with a 6.0 liter and 4l60e.

6.0 liter manifolds = free off a juckyard engine used for a customer's car
Crossover piping = free chopped up 2.5 exhaust tubing
Turbo = Free Airresearch turbo from a friend who was junking a tractor trailer
BOV = Tial 50mm $150 bought used
Wastegate = $300
Flanges = $75 from a friend who owns a machine shop
Griffin Radiator = $180 new
Fans = Free from around the shop
No intercooler
42lb / hour injectors = Free, I let him borrow mine
2 Walbro 255s = $200
Fuel lines = $175 metal tubing -> -8an feed and return
Tuning = Free
TH400 Conversion built with a rmvb and stall = $450

Grand TOTAL = $1530
The car layed down 620 rwhp, but didn't get a torque reading:
It also ran a 11.6 at 99mph after having a problem and cutting the run short.
No intercooler, meth, or other cooling is not reliable. Also, unless you already own tuning softwae, how is that "free"? Injectors for "free" too......most peeps will not get that deal, so not really feasible. I mean, "borrowing" injectors....what, did he give them back and run inadequate ones after the track session?

On to quote #2

Transplating all of those parts Jason bought a 95 mustang roller for $600. The car came with a tubular k member, tubular upper, and lower rear control arms. He added C clip eliminators, bought some draglites for $100, an ebay intercooler used for $100, and transplanted everything over. The whole car was done for under $3500-4000, including the forged 370, TH400, fuel system, suspension, turbo setup, wiring, cage, and safety gear.
Hmm.....blew the engine. Possibly a product of no cooling (FMIC, etc)? Again, roasting an engine is hardly a "reliable" setup.

Garret GT42 = $600
Wastegate = Have to buy $300
BOV = Have to buy = $100
Manifolds = Header I found at the shop I'll be chopping and rewelding:
for the passenger's side I'll be using a hooker shorty that came with the car.
Piping = Chopped and sandblaster 2.5 exhaust tubing = free
Flanges = $75 bought from local machine shop friend
4 inch exhaust tubing = $100
Couplers and connectors = Have to buy $100
Intercooler = Ebay piece = Have to buy $150

Injectors = My 42lb / hour as Jason is buying new ones
Fuel pumps = Two walbro 255s $200 have to buy
Same fuel system as is in Jason's car = $175 Have to buy

Grand TOTAL = $1800 in parts + $900 car

I know the trans is going to blow up and I already have a 4l80e core lined up for $200 that we'll be building.
In short, I admire your ingeniuty, honestly I do. It's a testament to all of us that don't have a Jay Leno budget. But, in your quest of examples to show how cheap FI can be made, I think you have in essence solidified the point that to do it right and reliably, FI it can not be done for under $2K dollars! Just my $0.02

Default My .02

used sts kit.......2300.00
tune&lc1...........400.00
gauges.............320.00
injectors...........250.00
ebay intercooler 125.00
ebay piping........100.00
