Default Turbo cam recomendation from Cam Motion

I've got a turbo cam recommendation from Cam Motion and just wanted to post up and get some opinions before I buy. My setup details I just copied from an e-mail so I wouldn't have to type it out again.

Looks like a winner to me. Might want more lift like the Comp XE-R lobes, and I think the 5° advance might me too much, but I am used to N/A cams so it might be good.

Well I am running 1.75 rockers so that lift number might be more like .590" but I'll have to check to see how they spec'ed it. I feel like maybe they should spec it again so that's why I posted up.

Looks pretty decent to me, whatever that is worth. If you want a second opinion you can have Patrick G spec out something for you. That is who I had spec my turbo cam.

Thanks for that info. What are your specs if those are shareable?

I am really not a believer in the reverse-split turbo cam. Just look at my 224/236 cam with a T76GTS on a 388 LT1. Works well and that's a pretty extreme conventional split.

Also, I think it was Speed Inc. that built a turbo 370 LSx with a medium frame 80 mm turbo. The thing made almost 1000 rwhp through a TH400 using a cam that was 236/242-112.

370 LSx, AFR225's
T88 turbo at 22 psi boost
994 rwhp through an unlocked TH400

Cam: 236/242 - 112

Copy this.

from what i understand a log style header would be better suited for a reverse split cam than a traditional header. certain kits like different splits. i dont know where i read that but maybe someone will chime in and correct me if im wrong.

First of all, I am using a 224/236 cam with a log header.

Secondly, I keep hearing and reading that you have to altar the split depending on how much backpressure you have. However, I have never seen any dyno testing using multiple cams to prove any of these theoretical trends. Until someone posts said info, I'm not buying that a reverse split is EVER better than a single pattern or a conventional split.

thats also what ive been reading about altering splits depending on backpressure, im not out to prove that a certain split is better than another just stating things ive read places, and i agree with you on someone proving on the dyno and/or track with multiple cam tests

Not sure on mine because I just got the recommendation Friday evening. I was kinda surprised to see the reverse split too as I had read before that a single pattern and even the conventional split was probably better suited to an LSx motor.

I had seen this before and studied it some. I called Speed Inc first about a cam and they were kinda black and white on it. It seemed like my only two options were their 225/225 (TU1) on the website and a 234/234 with Xtreme RPM lobes. They didn't seem to give an in-between option. That cam was never brought up to me. I called W2W for about a week and couldn't get anyone to return my call or e-mail. I finally got someone and they would "do it late today or tomorrow." Well that never happened so I called Cam Motion.

W2W would probably just turn it over to Cam Motion for a rec anyway...

Default cam

If it was me, I would call comp cams and see what they reccommend. I built a motor several years ago for a nitrous fed 406 s10 and they reccommended a great cam that made excellant power for the combo. Just my 2 cents, Josh

If a part number is what you're looking for, then just call up Comp and tell them what lobes you want, what LSA, and what advance. I looked them up and you could closely match the Speed Inc cam by getting a 3728 intake lobe on a 108 CL and a 3731 lobe on a 116 CL. That's XER lobes and lift would be .566/.574 lift with 1.6 rockers. Or, you could get the 54-448-11 off the shelf, which is pretty close, at 238/240-112. Of course, either way, you might consider purchasing it from Speed Inc since they came up with the cam to begin with.

Mine is single pattern in the low 220 duration. However, my setup is no where close to yours. I think Patrick did a great job tailoring the cam to what I wanted, and he is available for follow-up questions and a little tuning advice too.

That speed inc. turbo cam has 15* overlap. Isn't that a lot for a turbo cam? My N/A cam is gonna have 19*overlap.
