Default Project Stingray 6.0L Turbo Build Thread

This Thread will document my 72 Stingray L76 GenIII Turbo build.

Starting with the 6.0L 8.80:1 assembly good for 20~ PSI

2005 Iron 6.0L take out with 10 miles on the clock
Long Rod 6.300" Oliver Billet / 1.74 Rod Ratio
SRP 16cc Pistons PN231317 1.125ch 4.000" and Total Seal Rings
Stock Crank with ARP Studs. Should be +0.006 out of the hole @ 9.230" deck
L92 Heads, REV Stainless Valves, L92 Rockers on Patriot Extreme Springs and ARP Studs. Cometic Phusion MLS
L76 Intake, Cable 95mm Holley TB, 83# Injectors, ProForm Fuel Rails/Regulator
CompCams Custom 220/228 .601/.613 on a 112lsa

I wished the General had used forged pistons... The pistons and rods that
were removed had floating pins and looked strong. With 9.4:1 ratio I thought
about putting the motor in just as it was but was talked out of that by
others here on the forum. There for sale if someone needs a set... $75.00

Here's what the new stuff looks like going in weighing 58 grams less...
I hope not to see these again for awhile once installed so I thought now would be a good time for a pic

My car is in the body shop and I wished it was this far along... This is my buddy Mikes Vette. Mine will have the same
Burgundy Metallic Candy and I can't wait till its finished! Here is what my naked frame looks like sitting on the garage floor.

The turbo is a custom built Big Shaft Garrett T6:

Compressor 56 Trim 108mm/81mm (4.270"/3.177") .95ar housing 5" inlet 3.5" outlet
Turbine 64 Trim 95mm/76mm (3.75"/3.0") .96ar housing T6 inlet 5" outlet

Only suggestion I would make if you are thinking 20psi etc is skipping the l92 head setup and going with a thicker deck Trickflow 225cc and then just stick with a stock ls6 or ls2 intake setup....it wont give up anything on power and handle more boost without pushing water...so you can make *more* power.

Thanks Motorbuilt, but I've got everything here to bolt on and I'm set to go with the L92's. I still have the like new 317's that came on the 2005 6.0L if things go bad. I really don't think it has been proven that the L92 heads are any weaker as compraed to the 317's and many have used those heads with great success. Both decks measure around 0.500". I also think the big intake valve/runner on the L92 is going to make a measurable difference with high RPM cylinder filling over the 317's. Yes the AFR and other aftermarket heads have super thick decks around 0.750 or so. No question they would be better for boost. I just want the motor to look 100% GM on the outside.

What type of halfshafts are those in the picture? Regardless of the shaft material, if the Ujoint end is aluminum, you will need to upgrade to steel. I have seen two set of carbon fiber shafts mangle the aluminum ends at less than 500rwhp. The all steel shafts still hold fine. Just a friendly reminder before you end up with bits of U joint busting through your battery box and ruining your springs.

You are correct, the stock IRS is only good for around 500HP. The complete IRS is coming out in favor of a ford 9" rear with ladder bars in the control arm pockets and coil over shocks. My mind was made up when a friend of mine lost an axel with a strong small block on street tires. So there was no way I was going to run the IRS after that. I'm waiting for the body to come back so I can take some location measurements and then its going for sale on eBay to fund the swap.
