I voted for the 6.0 liter heads but I would upgrade springs on the heads.

We use the Patriot LQ9 Stage 2 heads on a lot of our builds.

I voted the LS6 heads. Figured those heads with a decent Cam like low to mid 220's would give the most average power for street driving. The higher comp. really wakes up throttle response and low end. Yes,it's plenty safe for pump gas if the tune is right.

I voted LS6. With the LQ9 heads, the chamber bore is 4" bore, unlike the 3.898" bore on your 346. You would need to use 4" gaskets on the LQ9 heads.

Either the patriot 72cc 6.0L heads, or better yet the AFR 72cc 225's with the thicker deck. Both of these will help drop compression on a stock 346...

well i dont have a ton of money and i would liek to stay safe with my stock motor. I would say anything under 500 rwhp you would stay safe. nice heads boltons and a D1 thats alot of power. Unless you do your own tuning and your good at it. What kind of power you pullin now? do you have a good fuel system?

Incorrect. The head gasket needs to clear the cylinder bore, not the head. So you could still use a 3.930" head gasket.

I found a post of someone who was using the small gasket on the Lq9 heads and it was leaking. He switched to the 4" gasket and it stopped.

Just going off of what I read on here.

Leave the haeds on it and put valvesprings on them. You will not be limited by the heads in the hp arena. I would save the money for a forged bottom end. Then make big power on stock heads.

I am with slowhawk too, I put the smaller chamber heads on the ATI cars I do. The compression is nice for drivability, fuel econimy, and making big power. Just need to tune it right thats all. I have made over 500 to the tires with a P1-SC at only 5lbs of boost with a baby cam (215, 55o lift 115lsa area). The bottom end on a stock short block is gonna limit you long before the heads. I would spend the money on stuff that will get the power to the ground and do so w/o breaking.

I didn't vote because I'm not sure what's best but I put on the lq4 heads for three reasons: #1, they drop the compresion so it should be a little safer on my stock bottom end, #2, I got them practicly new for $300 and #3, I just always wanted to try intalling heads

I've used twice Patriot Heads stage 2 LS6 and LQ9- I'm very pleased and no issues in 2 years at all!! Use the Patriot Gold Springs, they are excellent- if you need more lift than .600 then upgrade to their nex level ..650, i think....
Good luck!

Stock 317 is all you need and lowers CR by .5 down to 9.5 to make it a bit safer and/or allow you to run a bit more boost. They flow close to a LS6 head and are cheap to fit your budget, just make sure to upgrade the springs. Many are running these heads with serious horsepower.
