Update 3/14/08

pressure side of the fuel system is plumbed...still need to mount the fuel cell and run the feed/return lines...Aeromotive rates this setup to support 3500 hp

-12 to pump, -10 from pump split into 2 -8 lines to rails. Other side of rails -8 to regulator and -10 return

Mounted the vacuum pump puke tank...-12 line connecting pump to tank

Figured out the "super short belt" mod.... crank and alternator only

Oh...and its now a true drag radial car...315/60/15s...

Update 4/23

New replacement turbo arrived...FI-X (thanks Forced Inductions)

Dropped it on the car to see how it fit...unfortunately, need to make a few adjustments since the turbo is a tad bigger than the GT47-88 we originally designed the piping for (move the turbo forward a tad) so I can clock it correctly)

Also mounted my AMS-1000 boost controller

Finally started final assembly

Painted the engine bay Satin Black last week, assembled the longblock and dropped the motor in this afternoon.

Been a while since my last update...

as of 8/13, I started making shakedown passes for my NHRA license...

-----

This thing is pretty crazy...I'm doing my shakedowns as part of my Licensing runs, so I was only making my "moderate" runs tonight...

Anyhow...third pass...shut off at 1/8....super soft launch (1.7 psi...1.7x 60') it was trucking thru the middle (peak of 10 psi). 6.3x @ 120 mph at the 1/8 mile

it did go 122mph in the 1/8 on the 2nd pass with a much softer launch...

http://home.comcast.net/~tfranklin55...ense_Run_3.wmv

still need to work on the launch tune up to help fire this bad boy off...

update...

went 8.39 @ 167 in the first round of the LSX shootout...unfortunately, that wasn't enough to win the round
http://home.comcast.net/~tfranklin55...8p39_small.wmv

put it on the dyno at the shootout and put up 1213 RWHP

I took the motor down to Va Speed and we tore it down to assess how happy/unhappy the motor was at the ~1400 FWHP level...

First we pulled the heads. I run the GM 5-layer 6.2L gaskets. There was no evidence of cross-cylinder blowby. There was minor leakage into the water jacket (at the bottom of the gasket) on cylinders 3 and 4. There is a strong possibility that I did that on my last run when I got very aggressive on the tuneup (not the 171mph pass) These gaskets at 40 runs on them!

We turned the motor over and pulled the pan. Pulled all the pistons and saw no evidence of bearing issues other than a tad bit of dirt went thru the bearings (motor sat for several years assembled before an oil pan was put on so thats probably the source of the dirt). Pistons looked VERY good in Shawns opinion

Pulled the main caps. For whatever reason, the caps were not pinned (I didn't spec out the motor) and the caps walked pretty severely Main bearings were VERY good. No evidence of crank or block flex. Thrust surfaces were also VERY good considering its a turbo car!

We will be putting it back together pretty much with the same parts except we will be doweling the mains. Who says an aluminum block won't work at that power level

I'm sure Shawn can chime in for any specifics since all the parts are at his shop...

Thanks to Shawn for putting up with my crap to freshen up my motor

Only parts reused from last year's motor are the block, pistons, crank and heads (found the rods were junk and the valvetrain was majorly unhappy after closer inspection). Of course, the block and heads are totally revamped for this year

Changed to a full solid roller setup with T&D Shaft rockers

Major changes:

changed from hyd to solid roller
Proper connecting rods for the power level
Pinned mains
Partially filled block (hardblok)
Hand ported the ET225 heads to flow up to .700" lift
Custom head gasket setup
changed from vic jr to super vic intake

damn is that super vic tall

only about 1/8" from hitting my ws9 outlaw hood

I was fighting various issues all day, but this was the cleanest pass...

1. Car was misfiring over 7500 rpm...I think I found the culprit (one of the plug wires may not have been in good contact with the plug...saw some black-tracking on the terminal) Of course this happend ~7sec into the run...
2. Cooling fan was pushed into the radiator taking out two tubes
3. blowing thru the converter (25% slip downtrack)....I've pulled it out and dropped it off to ATI...tightening it up ALOT

little bouncy on launch...but the front is set dead tight, so not sure how I'm gonna fix that yet....maybe more power on the hit

All-in-all I'm pleased to have run that good with ignition issues

The super vic is tall. If it fits under your hood, then I will be good.
Now go get us some 7 sec. pass's!
