I think those 4th gen instructions were written for an LT1 f-body as well. It refers to "a cavity where most aftermarket air filter setups go"... I think the LS1's have some different devices that take up that room, but don't remember. I haven't had an LT1 for about 4 years now, and my LS1 has been modified too long with the ProCharger setup for me to remember how things were stock...
well I remember having to relocate the horns higher, and move the cruise control mod. over onto the side of the rad. support to make room for the ATI piping and air filter for dennis' procharger. oh, and the AIR pump setup was down there too when stock.
